Watching his family eating breakfast before an exciting day celebrating the Federation of Australia, brought both joy and sadness. The happiness that filled Charles’ heart expanded when Roland eleven, helped Margaret with Pearl six, Phyllis four, and Doris two. Leslie was nine and spent his time outside in the garden, weeding, planting or pruning. Sadness crept into the tiny little gaps left for it in Charles’ heart when he remembered what his own parents missed with his siblings, and now with grandchildren.
