1845The house in Collingwood closely resembled the cottage they lived in in Bourke Street, down from John and Elizabeth: two bedrooms, a parlour, and a kitchen set inside the house. Margaret missed the house at Greenhills. Having the kitchen separate from the house was a blessing in the hot summer months when the heat from the cooking stove stayed out of the parlour and bedrooms. The five children shared a room. When this baby was born, six would be in the one room. Sarah complained as soon as they arrived. There was no drainage from the house, residents had to dig their own. They must collect water from tanks and bucket it into the house. At least there was an established vegetable garden.
