Nelson, New Zealand September 1875David’s business is thriving, and he is happy in New Zealand. I have good company in his mother, Susan, who arrived six years ago from Belfast, and who lives with us, but I miss my mother and sisters.
Our seventh child, Ernest Douglas is a few weeks old and I worry about his health. He is a pasty colour and hasn’t had a good appetite since birth. He is listless and limp, does not try to lift his head, and doesn’t turn to follow anything that moves out of his line of sight. However, he has a beautiful little smile that lights up his whole face and makes his blue eyes twinkle. He looks like David when he smiles. Our older children are well and healthy.
