1867 1867With four children six and under Mary Ann was grateful her husband had been thrifty enough to save his money, so he could buy the lovely, modern house they lived in. There were three bedrooms, an inside kitchen with attached boot room, and a parlour and dining room. Each room had a fireplace, and until the children were old enough to chop wood, she spent an hour each morning after Richard had left, chopping and carrying wood for the kitchen stove. Minnie Jane had started her education at the local church school and walked there each morning after she’d helped her mother with Frederick and Florence. The child got Florence dressed and eating her oatmeal while Mary tended to baby Elizabeth. Frederick, although not old enough to cook breakfast, served his own and with Minnie’s help
