THE NEXT DAY, I WENT to the grocery store, then did laundry and cleaned my condo. Willing to do anything that would keep me from thinking about my second first real date with Jack, I didn’t even mind scrubbing the bathroom. My blue sleeveless dress was pressed and hanging on my bedroom door. Devotion was right when we had shopped for it; it did bring out my eyes. Not quite indigo, but almost.
