I arrived at the house were the parties taking place. I can hear music playing and chatter from the inside. I pull my flannel tighter around me as a breeze tickles over my skin as I approach. Steps echo behind me making me walk faster, my heart getting stuck in my throat. The steps stop. I try to spy behind me to see who it was just as I collide with something, or more accurately someone. Gravity tries to claim me but the arms of the person I collided with catch me.
“I’m so sorry.” I find my balance and look up at the person. Mess brown hair and a chiselled jaw. Is it Athan or Adam?
“No, my apologies.”
“I’m just going to the party,” I said as I turn around, but there is no one there.
“What are you looking at?” Adam or Athan or whatever asked as he stepped closer, I could feel his breath at the back of my head. His breath is ice cold. And who decides to stand right behind someone like a creep.
“Nothing.” I swivel around him heading towards the entrance boiling.
“Oh, and by the way, you can’t just stand right behind someone it’s gross!” I snapped turning around pointing a finger at him.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” he throws his arms in the air, just like the guilty criminal he is, but his face looks completely nonchalant. Which just makes me even angrier.
“And- And- And what is your name?” I shout it’s been driving me crazy not knowing exactly if he is Adam or Athan. His face softens and then he begins to laugh.
“That’s what you’re mad about?” he practically doubles over and after a moment catches enough breath to get ut the word “Athan.”
“Thanks for settling that,” I said turning around entering the party.
“Elsa!” Emica throws her arm around me. “What took you so long?”
I don’t have time to answer before I’m dragged into the kitchen.
“What do you want?”
“Nothing.” Emica throws me a questioning look, “Water maybe.”
“Water coming right up.” As she pours me a glass of water I jump onto the counter. I receive my water and Emica joins me on the counter, our shoulders touching.
“Has anyone ever told you that you have cool eyes?”
“Actually yes. A lot of people notice my eyes, they are after all different colours.” Emica laughs and rests her head on my shoulder for a second before pulling away.
“Sorry, that was a stupid question.”
“Not at all. I think my eyes are different because I had a secret twin but I overpowered her and now I’m secretly two people.” Emica laughs at that “And if that’s true I’m a hidden killer.” I add.
“Oooh, spooky. It makes you look magical thou.” She says as a few boys rampage into the kitchen, knocking me closer to Emica. Her face only inches away from mine. I notice a few hidden freckles on her nose. She closes the gap between us and I close my eyes. Our lips meet. Her lips are soft and I can smell the vodka on her breath. My heart somersaults. I kiss her gently back. It’s so sweet I wanted it to last forever.
“Oh my god, Hot!” one of the guys call out. I turn at him.
“You know what else is hot? The pits of hell.” I throw my drink at him and turn back to Emica who is as red as an orange.
"What's your problem? Let's get out of here boys!"
“I’m- I’m so sorry, I don’t know what came over me.” she looks down at her hands.
“It’s okay. Okay?” I try to catch her eye but in vain.
“Okay.” Emica hops off the counter, “We should join the other, they’re in the living room.”
“Yeah,” I replied feeling a little bit disappointed.
