chapter 3

After breathing so fast and loud and yet, didn't notice any movement, she was now certain that she was alone in the dark room. She heaved with relief as she sat down on the floor, closed her eyes, and threw her head back as she relaxed her back on the frame of Phil's bed, breathing so hard like an athlete that just finished a race. She had never been this scared in her life, but she was still proud of how she took the bull by the horns instead of cowering in fear over an inexistent element from her mind. After catching her breath and gaining full control of her mind, she knew it was time to get to the door and free herself and get to whatever might be out there lying in store for her. For the first time in her life, she was uncertain about what to expect on the other side of the door which is directly adjacent to the living room, a few steps ahead lies the dining table on the right-hand side which leads towards the kitchen door. Cutting back to the living room which contains a well-furnished room with a burning fireplace to keep the temperature hot due to the cold. Directly above the fireplace is a piece of furniture that holds other electric devices connected to the wide-screened plasma which hangs on the wall firmly and emits colored lights against the wall to give the room a luxury feel. Cushions were set inches backward facing the television and a glass table which has an eloquent design and patterns on it and two remote controls neatly kept in a lying position side by side. The floor was covered with a thick rug that had the picture of a lion boldly printed on it. Alexia loved it and always wished she had a pet of her own. On the east side, the door to her parent's bedroom was standing with so much grace that it made Alexia think it sparkled, for it was made partly of glass and smooth wood. The glass glitters and sends light rays back to the walls of the living room to add more beauty to the living room. The ceiling was thick and by mere looks, you will just know that this family is well-to-do. Walking past the dining room Will lead to the kitchen door and the bathroom door on the far right. The family lacked nothing and all of the demands of the kids were met. Mr. Lewis, Alexia's dad, is in the military and always in service. She knew that he was close to retirement because he kept assuring her that very soon, he would be there to take care of his family without leaving now and then to go on a mission. Alexia loves her dad well and hates it whenever he has to go back to base. Mr. Lewis might be very tough on criminals, but he also loves his family and never misses celebrating with them when due, especially the kid's birthdays, he wouldn't miss it for anything in the world and Alexia loved him more for that. Alexia, still in the dark room, decided to step up and charge towards the door to free herself. Getting to the door might be a little tricky and would require more intelligence for her to get across without knocking down some expensive glass paintings on the wall and the little fragile aquarium glass which was kept on top of the wardrobe. It would be disastrous, if it loses its equilibrium and gets broken, littering the floor with the debris of tiny pieces of glass which is quite detrimental and it will also end the life of the little golden fish swimming and habituating in it, now, she wouldn't want to cause all that damage and make mum go over the roof. She began thinking of ways to maneuver her way around the room to get towards the door without knocking any object down to the floor. She decided to try getting a feel of the wall and following closely with her body on it. The moment she took her first step forward in the dark room, she accidentally stepped on a cubic object, thereby, losing balance, she slipped and with a thud, she went flying and landed on her stomach. "Ouch!" She exclaimed in pain as she slowly rolled herself sideways, facing the ceiling and feeling pain in her feet and knees. She hoped the injury wasn't that bad or worse– bleeding! Alexia pushed herself up into a sitting position, and ran her hand on her knee checking for blood, but was relieved when she touched nothing in liquid form. She was wondering what she could have stepped on when all of a sudden, her left hand touched it close to her arm's length, just where she was seated. Fumbling with it for a while in the dark, she finally got hold of the silly cubic object which now seemed destroyed from the weight she exerted when she stepped on it. "Poor thing!... what on earth could this be anyway? She thought as she kept moving it around trying to figure out what she was holding. When Alexia couldn't make out what it was, now that some of its part is gone from the impact, she cast it into her pocket so that it wouldn't get in her way again. Now, back on her feet, she knew that she had to be more cautious to avoid another accident, so Alexia began taking slow strides towards the edge of the room with her hands ahead of her trying to touch anything that might obstruct her way. A few minutes later, she got across and was resting her back at the wall end. For her to get to the door, Alexia just has to flow with the wall of the room towards the left-hand side in which her bed was located, and when she would get to the center of the room, that's where she would find the door. Without wasting much time, Alexia, now coated in sweat, moved a strand of hair behind her ear from her face and got ready to end this whole morning's torture. With her palms both on the wall like a spider-man, she began moving sideways like a crab towards the door. Taking subtle steps so as not to make a collision with the door, she kept on moving sideways, not too sure what to expect when she got there. Tired and feeling weary, Alexia got down on her fours and decided to crawl but was still stuck close to the walls for guidance. With so much running through her mind, she didn't notice when she got to the door until her hands brushed against the wooden door, but luckily for her, the impact wasn't much and caused her no pain. "Phew!... that was close!" Alexia muttered to herself in thanks to her stars. She sat against the door and out of curiosity and fear, leaned in and pressed her ear against the door for any movement or noise. Seconds went by and there wasn't a single sound outside, she recoiled back and sat against the door, wondering why everything seems so off today. Just as she was still sitting against the door and philosophizing, a loud wave of growling and evil sneer swept past the wooden door from the outside right into the dark room. Alexia jolted back in fear and was soon facing the door. She was gradually moving backward away from the door with extreme fear and panic written all over her system. Haven moved inches away from the door, trembling and horrified by what she just heard, she even became more worried for her dear life. Then again, at this moment, that same growling sound echoed towards the room, though more fierce than the first time. Losing track of her position due to fear, moving backward briskly without caution in the dark, she got in contact with a vase that contained flowers, knocking it sideways but she cared little about what happened to the vase because her mind is now overridden by fear. Her teeth were chattering and her heart was pounding so hard that both sounds created a rhythm that could match some rap lyrics. She begged and wished it to be a dream but it wasn't. The sounds kept edging closer to the door and with increased frequency and vibration, she could tell that whatever is making that noise is wild, and not alone. This sudden realization sent her into a meltdown because she knew what it meant, her chances of surviving, if attacked were negligent. As the sounds echoed again in unison with deafening clarity. Alexia immediately recognized what they might be and it made her heart jump into her mouth. "No way"! It's not!…..it's not supposed to exist!" She said to herself in a stutter with eyes wide open even though she can't see anything at the moment. Fully convinced of her realization, the dark room began to clog around her and it seemed too small for her to hide from what was behind the door. Now, fully clothed in sweat, it began to itch her skin, but it didn't bother her a bit, there's something way terrifying to care about—"survival!..
