Alexia, still in shock, couldn't believe what she just heard coming from the sitting room.
Shaking her head in disbelief, she sat still and motionless, flabbergasted and exhausted.
Today was just not cut out to be nice to her.
Deep in sorrow, billions of things were circling her head but she couldn't catch any.
With her mind running riot, Alexia sat upright, arched her knees, and hugged them to her body, resting her head on her knees as her blonde hair went flying downward.
Feeling cold and in need of a blanket, she wanted to rise and crawl in the dark towards her bed but she has lost track of her environment as her mind is no longer in good frame.
Fear wouldn't allow her to bulge an inch away from her present position, so she endured all of the colds even though it was making her teeth clatter and body vibrate simultaneously.
It was at this moment that she remembered what grandma told her.
"Does it mean that her prophecy has begun manifesting?"
She thought, but it just doesn't seem right to her.
Spontaneously out of nowhere, she began to hear approaching footsteps towards the door.
Fear gripped her to itself as she was entirely consumed by it.
With nowhere and no one to run to, she sat still, trembling and looking utterly helpless.
Things couldn't get any worse when the growling and howling also intensified and they sounded like a bunch of Injured wild animals filled with rage and bloodshot eyes begging for revenge.
Then Grandma's words echoed loud into her eardrums, reverberating into her brain.
"They make such horrible deafening noises, fast-paced beyond anything you must have seen on foot!"
"No human can be a match for their super strength and agility, especially when it's a full moon!
Legends have it that they transform into something way crazier….. things that only exist in the "paranormal realm!--------"werewolves!"
Alexia swallowed hard and hated her brain instantly for reminding her of the details of what Grandma told her, not too long, the brain began surfing through Files that contain Grandma's stories.
"When I was still a kid, we were attacked by a werewolf on the night of a full moon.
it killed so many that health facilities couldn't even keep up with treatment for the victims!".
"But grandma, can't the police arrest them and lock them up just like they do to criminals?" Little Alexia chimed in.
"Hahaha ……you're still a kid, and you know nothing about these creatures! Each of them can equal the strength of ten men!"......
Grandma paused while looking into her eyes to see how she was taking the information in.
"Wow!"......ten men for one werewolf?".....they can be really strong then!".
Alexia said looking surprised and in awe of the strength the werewolves possessed.
"Yes my dear!....way too strong even for the cops to handle!"....but they can still be hunted down anyway!".
Grandma said while caressing Alexia's hair as she sat on her legs, feeding her curiosity.
"Really?"
Alexia asked, turning back to lock eyes with Grandma anxiously waiting for her to let the cat out of the bag.
Grandma sensed the surge of curiosity in her blood and then decided to give her what she wanted.
"Of course!.... but it has to be a hunter with a special armory and skill sets and has to be brave and witty not to be caught off-guard!"
Grandma said, already gearing herself for the next query from her granddaughter.
"Huh? Off-guard?... but…but why?"
Alexia asked, stuttering, with a confused facial expression, Grandma understood her confusion, so she went on to educate her ignorance.
"Little Miss, the hunters wouldn't want to die either!... They are humans too, remember?"
Grandma said looking down on Alexia who now seems to be getting along well.
After looking into the space for a while, Alexia turned back to face Grandma with a smile on her face feeling fulfilled.
"Yep….. they've got to be alert to stay alive!" Alexia said smartly.
Grandma looked down at her and was amazed at the speed she was learning.
"Bull's eye, girl! You're smart, just like your dad!"
Grandma said with admiration, but before she could come out of her admiration for Alexia, the kid struck again.
"But grandma, what special weapons can be used against the werewolves that can defeat them?"
Little Alexia said, fixing her gaze on Grandma without blinking for a second.
"UHM!, it depends on the rank of the werewolf, Alexia".
Grandma replied and those words caught her attention.
"Did you just mention rank?'', I thought they're just chaotic and barbaric without order!"
Alexia asked, looking perplexed once more.
"Of Course, not!".......they might be barbaric like you said but they surely do have someone at the helm of affairs similar to humans"!.......
Grandma trailed off as she allowed the message to sink into the mind of her granddaughter, then she went on.
"Ever heard the word Alpha before, little miss?"
Grandma queried Alexia.
"Yes!, I think I have "!.......... Alexia responded with a sharpness that caught Grandma off guard.
"you do?", do you mind letting me know what it means?"
Grandma requested with an atom of surprise in her tone.
"Well, I guess it's a title that's dedicated to GOD himself!"..... and…. It usually comes along with omegas!..... you know, like alpha and Omega or something, am I right?"
Alexia said, not sounding too sure and waiting for Grandma's approval.
"Yes my dear, but the alpha of the werewolves is quite different to what you must have been taught in Sunday schools, they both stand as a figure of leadership anyway!..….so, you are kinda close, sweetie"!
Grandma partially approved Alexia before going on with more details.
"You see, werewolves like to exist in packs, and eventually, everyone has a role to play depending on your rank within the park."
Grandma stopped to catch her breath before delving deeper.
"In every park, you will find an alpha which is the leader, a beta werewolf, somewhat like the alpha's right-hand man, and venturing down the list, you will find the delta's, this one serves as errand runners within the park and lastly, the newbies,... Omegas.
"Wow"! Just like the ant colony!" Alexia brainstormed.
"Goodness me! girl you're really smart for sure"!.
Grandma praised her intelligence.
Alexia smiled and was taking her moment all in.
Before grandma cuts in.
"Just like they all rank differently, so do their strength and paranormal powers, though they all have something in common when it comes to weakness!........"silver dagger and bullets!... without both, not even the bravest of hunters stands a chance against the beasts!".
Grandma revealed it to Alexia.
"Really"?. Alexia fired back in surprise.
"Absolutely!, little miss!"...... but that's not the scariest part of it all"!
Grandma said in a hushed tone as if someone might be eavesdropping on their conversation and it immediately made Alexia uncomfortable.
"What do you mean by that, grandma"?.
Alexia asked, fixing her gaze on Grandma with worry written all over her countenance.
"Well, after that werewolf attacked and killed so many people, the authorities fought back but their weapons didn't cause much harm to it"!.
Grandma paused to catch her breath, but before she could ride on, Alexia quickly interpolated.
"What happened to the werewolf then?"
Alexia said eagerly, wanting more details.
Grandma clears her throat before she goes on.
"You see, the local forces used dynamite and grenades against the werewolf, it was hit but the body was never found after searching for days on end, but it never attacked again since then, prompting the theory that it got dismantled by the grenade!"
She paused and began looking into space.
"Well,...I presume it's gone, right?"
Alexia inquired but Grandma kept looking into the space without saying a word.
Alexia pushed further for an answer to rest her troubled mind.
"Grandma, you haven't said anything yet "!
She yelled with impatience as the suspense was killing her.
With Grandma still focused in thin air, she allowed the words to come out of her mouth in such a creepy way that made the hairs on Alexia's skin rise.
"Little miss, you can't kill werewolves with grenades due to their immortality!"
Grandma said with terror.
"You mean to say that it could still be alive out there in the woods?"
Alexia asked with fear gripping her.
Grandma turned coldly to her, stroking her hair and almost wanting to cry, replied Alexia.
"The news report said that it had been terminated, but deep down, my instincts keep telling me that it's out there, regrouping and waiting to attack, stronger with mass!"……..
her voice trailed off.
Her revelation got Alexia frightened, almost to death but she couldn't help it.
"Grandma, but ... .but even if it attacks again, the local forces would be there to fight against them, right?"
Alexia asked with butterflies in her Tommy looking directly at grandma.
"This is where it gets scary, little miss!.......they won't see it coming and it will be too late to fight against the wild werewolves without proper preparation!"...
Grandma took a deep breath and pulled Alexia closer and held her tightly to herself.
" My instincts don't lie"'......but I just pray that it isn't right this time!...... because the impact could end humans!"
Grandma muttered, still holding Alexia who is now short of words with many images of dread circling through her head as she shut her eyes and rested her head on Grandma's shoulder.
