I stood in the hallway calling out into the house as I tried to find out if anyone was here.
My voice echoed back to me against the walls. I frantically ran up and down as every single door shut in my face. What the hell is going on?
At the end of the hallway, I saw Grace's door slowly opening. I felt nervous, unnerved… Scared. I slowly stalked the room as the hallway got darker and darker with every step I took. I glanced back and all I could see was darkness. Going back was out of the question.
I walked into Grace's room but the bed had vanished. Grace had vanished. It was only an empty, dark room. As I reached the middle of the room, my body slowly spinned around, against my demand and it stopped as I faced one of the corners of the room.
Small whimpers echoed through the room, that made my stomach churn. I felt nauseated as the whimpers got louder and louder. The moment I blinked, I froze in fear as I saw what seemed to be a lady, standing in the corner, her back facing me.
My eyes widened as she slowly turned around. Horror washed over my face as I was met with a young inhumane woman staring through her long mussed hair straight at me.
She twitched her head to the side so suddenly that the sound of cracking filled the air. I was a split second away from fainting as her body started to move closer to mine, cracking at every single movement she made. The way her body moved was not human. She was something else! It was something else!
I wanted to run. I wanted to jump out the window. I wanted to fight with all my might but I was frozen. I wasn't going anywhere. Suddenly the urge to scream filled me and I let loose the moment she lunged at me, growling like an otherworld creature.
I sat up in my bed panting as the growling slowly disappeared. I looked around frantically as I locked eyes with someone right in front of my face. Without a second thought I punched into the air as hard as I could and saw the person stumble off the bed and hit the floor with a huge thud.
"Ah f**k! Ali it's me!" a familiar voice yelled as I slowly started to wake completely.
It was Mason.
"What are you doing in my room?" I demanded, as my body was still shaken from what I hoped was a dream.
He stood up from the floor, stretching his back as he rolled his eyes. "You were screaming like a f*****g maniac, YET AGAIN! And I came to check on you."
It was just a dream. I clutched my chest as my breath evened out and my heart rate slowed. "It was just a dream." I convinced myself.
"Yeah! You scared the s**t out of me. I thought someone was in here. I thought someone had broken in and attacked you!" he shouted. "What the f**k were you dreaming about Ali?"
"I had a nightmare. I'm sorry. I really thought it was real!" I whispered ashamed, sweating.
Staring at me, Mason sighed as he turned to leave the room.
"No! Don't leave me!" I shouted, desperate for Mason to stay by my side.
He stopped by the door and slowly turned around. "Do you want me to sleep in here for tonight?"
"Please!" I pleaded desperately. I still hadn't shaken off the nightmare and I definitely wasn't going to do that alone.
Mason sighed as a small smile formed on his face. He nodded and got into bed.
I suddenly felt so much safer in my environment. Mason was the only security I had in this s**t show of a house.
"Roll on your side." he said, as he got closer to my body.
Relieved that he wasn't leaving me, I nodded with a smile and followed his orders.
Mason put his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. "I'm right here Ali. I'm not going anywhere."
I smiled. The warmth of his voice soothed me and I felt safe in his embrace. The smell of his cologne tingled my senses and I just layed there, breathing it in.
That was such an intense dream, that it almost hadn't felt like a dream. It felt so damn real. But with Mason here, I felt much better. I wasn't scared anymore.
Then another thought struck me.
I am falling in love with Mason.
At first, that thought made me happy. Really happy but suddenly, the happiness was clouded by sadness. Mason didn't feel the same. I knew he only saw me as a friend. A very good friend. We had grown to be very close but not in the way that I necessarily wanted.
Mason was warm and open with me. We connected on levels that I had never had before. Not even with Ryan. It was exhausting to keep pretending that I was one hundred percent okay with just being viewed as his close friend, who screamed occasionally.
And I don't think I want it to stay like this. I felt his warm body against mine and I couldn't help but snuggle a little closer. He was here for me. Mason was here and I never wanted him to leave. I just wanted him to stay here with me forever.
Mason slowly lifted his arm just enough to find my hand before he locked it into his, bringing me even closer. The heat emanating between us was different this time. It wasn't all lust and excitement. It was care and love. It was safety and security. It was us.
I heard Mason's breathing even out as he fell asleep. He seemed so peaceful. So beautiful. My mind was going crazy. I have to tell him how I feel. I couldn't just keep my feelings to myself any longer.
"Mason?" I whispered, trying to figure out if he was still awake.
But Mason was already fast asleep. At first I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to share my new revelation with him but then it hit me. Maybe, I could tell his sleeping self how I felt. That way, I wouldn't have to face the stupid embarrassment of his rejection.
I turned my face back onto the pillow as I whispered. "I know you're sleeping and you probably won't even know….. But I think I am falling for you."
