EVE There's a snowstorm coming this weekend. I'm alone and need to be ready. Several casualties already, making its way across the Midwest, and even though we're only expecting a couple of feet and some ice, better to suppose I won’t be making it off the mountain for a few days. I reassure myself that I can handle this. I have food stores for a month, a high-capacity generator and enough fuel. There’s stored water in case the line freezes. Even a snowmobile in case of emergencies, though it will only take me as far as Great Barrington, some fifteen minutes away. It took me a lot of time, scrimping and saving and selling prints and bags and t-shirts with my art online, and buying things piece by piece so that I never have to face another winter blackout unprepared.
