“So you get sent after Stone, chase him to San Diego, and then come back with Geraldo Assante instead?” Daniels sounds absolutely stunned. “He’s actually in the lockup under federal guard right now? How the hell did you pull that off?”
“I found out that Stone was trying to defect. The Cohens usually use Assante to sanction any hitters who go astray, so when it came down to choosing who to chase, I picked the man we have the much stronger case against.” There’s so much more to it than that, but Daniels doesn’t need to know all the details.

“We’ve been trying to catch that son of a b***h for fifteen years, and you just happen to stumble across him in the field. For f**k’s sake.” He leans back in his desk chair, laughing incredulously.
