Liam only stared at me, as if he didn't understand what I was saying. Finally, Chloe broke the silence by bursting into laughter.
"Oh my dear Goddess, you can't be serious, Serena," she said, continuing to laugh. "A treatment that costs seven million dollars would even bring the dead back to life!" This made me clench my fist.
"Didn't she make a deal with you a few days ago, Liam? Please don't be foolish. She lost that deal, and after you publicly chose us, she would be left with nothing. She wouldn't even have a shelter to go to. She would be like a rogue in the Raven Moon Pack," Chloe continued, her laughter fading. "She never worked, and I bet she never even wanted to. She wants you to pay for her so she can continue living in comfort," she added.
I felt my wolf become even more frustrated, and it took a great effort to keep her in check and hold her back from attacking Chloe. However, when I glanced at Liam, I could see that, in his eyes, his mistress had achieved her goal.
I watched him, confused, as he walked to the commode and opened a drawer. He took out his chequebook and wrote something on it. After tearing the check from the book, he replaced it in the drawer and turned to me.
Chloe watched his actions in surprise, unable to believe Liam was actually giving me money for Cecilia's treatment. But her lips curled into a smile when she glanced at the check, which only added to my confusion.
Liam stepped towards me and handed me the check. For a moment, I just looked into his eyes, but then I was shocked when I glanced at the check in my hand. There was only a hundred dollars on it.
"Never appear again," he spat before turning his back to me and walking back to Chloe.
Chloe caressed his chest, her hand slipping under his shirt as the first button came undone.
"Could she be more pathetic? A she-wolf who uses her dying child to keep her comfortable life deserves nothing but pity," she said, pulling her hand out and kissing Liam's face.
I reached my breaking point; I could no longer bear to listen to their accusations. The poisonous sting of her words—that I would use my dying child to reclaim my financially stable life—echoed relentlessly in my mind, suffocating every ounce of feeling I had left.
The humiliation I felt earlier faded, and the love I once felt for Liam changed into hatred. All our good memories crumbled, leaving a stark void in my soul. In that moment, the submissive version of Serena vanished, and there was no turning back.
My wolf shared this feeling, and she was ready to emerge. She took control of my body, and I didn’t even want to stop her.
I moved toward them, reaching Liam first. I grabbed his shirt collar, pulled him close, and with a swift but powerful movement, I flipped him over, letting him fall to the floor with a hard impact. Even if my move hadn't caught him by surprise, there was little he could do to defend himself. He was an Alpha, but he was never prepared to lead, while I was a Beta—almost his equal—who had trained hard to lead and protect an entire pack.
Chloe wanted to scream as soon as she woke up from her shock, but I was quicker. In the blink of an eye, I punched her in the face, making her dizzy and causing her to fall to the floor as well.
It was satisfying to see her try to support herself, just like my Cecilia had done earlier. She clutched the tablecloth, but it couldn’t bear her weight, and the heavy silver tray full of cakes crashed down on her.
Her nose started to bleed, and her lips were torn.
“Guards!” she yelled, but I wasn’t intimidated. “Guards!” she screamed again, making my lip curl in disdain.
My wolf sensed Liam behind me as he got up from the floor, but she didn’t give him time to reach me. I turned around and first punched him in the face, then grabbed his wrist. I twisted him into a position where one wrong move could break his arm. Even his wolf couldn’t save him; he was helpless against me, and I relished seeing him vulnerable and humiliated. At that moment, the Omega servant stepped into the room and covered her mouth in shock.
“Sarah, quickly get the guards!” Chloe shouted at her, and she vanished instantly.
“Serena, stop it,” I heard Liam’s voice, but I was determined.
“Not until your w***e apologises to me!” I yelled, still in a frenzy.
“Serena, the guards will be here any minute, and you won’t get away with this,” he said, but I only needed to twist his wrist slightly to make him scream in pain.
“Let go of him!” Chloe shouted, trying to approach me.
“Don’t come any closer if you don’t want me to break his arm!” I shouted back.
I began to make small movements, twisting his arm slightly to make him scream repeatedly. I resolved not to let go of him until he or his mistress apologised to me.
I hadn't even noticed that three guards had arrived, holding me tightly. They held my hand, removing it from Liam's wrist. I struggled, trying to bite and fight them off, but another guard appeared, and together they finally subdued me.
Liam got to his feet, his movements shaky. He held his injured wrist and, after ensuring it wasn’t damaged beyond repair, glared at me. Hatred filled his eyes, and he could hardly catch his breath. He was furious, but I didn’t care. Even if I couldn’t move, a smile crept onto my lips, further enraging him.
“Force her onto her knees,” he commanded the guards, who obeyed immediately.
“I told you, you won’t get away with this,” he said, taking a step toward me.
