Chapter 7 Perfect Family

1089 Words
I stayed with Cecilia a little longer, letting the memories of my pregnancy replay in my mind. The joy Liam's face demonstrated when we discovered we were expecting a daughter will forever stay in my mind. His excitement was contagious; there wasn't a miserable day in our lives back then. I can still picture him as he planned everything about Cecilia's future. He didn’t just want to be a father; he wanted to be the very best father. I remember the afternoons spent together, choosing paint colours, picking out furniture, and adorning her room with decor. During this magical time, he shared his dream with me—building a house separate from the packhouse. I can vividly recall the moment he came home with the blueprints for our future home, and I was thrilled to know I had made the best choice in my life by choosing him as my mate. I thought that if I reminded him of that time, he might reflect on it, and recalling some memories of Cecilia's baby face—which he adored so much—and the excitement he felt when he taught her her first words would awaken the protective parent in him. I hoped he wouldn’t refuse to help her stay alive. “Serena?” I heard Sasha’s voice and looked at her. “Can you drive me to Liam?” I asked. She nodded after a brief moment. I spoke to a nurse who had moved next to Cecilia while we were away and then walked out with Sasha into the parking lot to find her car. It was already dark outside, and it was raining. The weather mirrored my feelings: dark and miserable. I sat beside her as she turned the engine on. She drove me to the pack house first, and I walked to Liam’s room, which used to be our bedroom. I knocked on the door, but no one answered. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open, only to find the room unoccupied. Our personal belongings were gone, and as I stepped inside, I saw that the open wardrobe was empty. My chest began to ache immediately, with two options lingering in my mind. The first possibility was that he had moved in with Chloe, not caring that their relationship could be revealed to the entire pack. The second was that he had moved into our dream house with his mistress and their daughter. The pain washed over me, and I struggled to hold back my tears. “Beta Serena?” I turned around to hear the familiar voice of an Omega who used to be our personal assistant. “Mia, where is Liam?” I asked, and she lowered her head sadly. “The Alpha moved out a while ago. He lives in the new building on the land,” she replied. It hurt to hear this. Even though I had suspected it, it was hard to face the reality. “Thank you, Mia,” I said as I walked past her. She looked sad as well. I remembered that she had liked me, and it was a small comfort to know she did not agree with Liam’s choices. I exited the pack house and rushed toward the familiar building. The gentle rain had turned heavy, but I didn’t care. My focus was solely on Cecilia's health. My determination pushed me forward, but as I approached the wrought-iron fence and saw the light spilling out of the house, my legs felt heavy. There were two guards at the gate who looked at me in confusion. “Beta Serena,” they greeted, immediately opening the gate. In their eyes, I still belonged in this place. I rushed forward, but then I felt the need to pause again. The living room's window was large enough to reveal what was happening inside, and the sight broke my heart once more. Liam sat on the sofa with Tiffany, singing happily. Their faces showed clear happiness as they spent time together. Tiffany sat there, still wearing the expensive dress, and what made my chest hurt was that she was wearing the tiara she had stolen from Cecilia. When they finished singing, they applauded each other, and at that moment, Chloe entered the room, carrying a tray of cakes. She laughed with her daughter and Liam, setting the cakes down on the table and sitting beside them. Seeing this idyllic family scene shattered my heart as I watched Liam’s face light up while he looked at Chloe. I recognised that expression—the same one he wore when he looked at me. It was clear adoration, an unconditional love that only mates could share. It took all my strength to hold back my tears once again, reminding myself why I had come here. I walked up the stairs to reach the door. My blond hair was soaking wet, just like my shirt, and my green eyes probably mirrored my emotions, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t here to win him back; I was here for my daughter's sake. I wanted to knock on the door, but I hesitated again as memories began to torment me once more. The house hadn’t even been completed when the door was installed. Liam had wanted to show me the house, and before we entered, he had carried me inside as if we were just after our wedding day, entering our new home. I smiled bitterly, feeling the need to remind myself why I was there. Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the door. I waited for a moment, but no one came. I knocked again, this time louder, and finally, the door handle moved. An unfamiliar Omega she-wolf opened the door. Even though I didn’t know who she was, she recognised me. “Beta Serena,” she greeted. “I must talk to Liam now,” I insisted, but she looked at me with fear in her eyes. “I’m sorry, Beta Serena, but the Alpha requested to leave them in peace. Perhaps you could come back tomorrow or see him in his office,” she suggested. I gently pushed her aside and stepped into my house. “I have no time to waste. I must speak to him immediately,” I said. “But Beta Serena—” she started, but I interrupted her. “Disturb him,” I ordered. The Omega knew she couldn’t refuse my command, so she nodded and went into the living room, interrupting their happy family time.
