While she was bathing, I hung her dress up to prepare it for tomorrow and stared at the tiara for a long time. The stones in it were exquisite, and I guessed that Liam had to spend a considerable amount to buy such a tiara for Cecilia. Yet my wolf reminded me of something: a brief conversation we had in his office when he said he wouldn’t buy her an expensive gift. Tiffany deserved such an expensive gift, but not Cecilia.
I placed the lid back onto the box. I sighed as my wolf reminded me again that Liam was only being nice and acting like a caring father to Cecilia because it was the easiest way for him to sever ties with me, make Chloe his Luna, and present Tiffany as his only biological daughter.
I forced myself to smile when Cecilia appeared in her cute pyjamas.
"I can't wait for tomorrow," she said as I tucked her into bed.
"Me neither," I replied, kissing her cheek.
"Do you stay here with me, Mummy?" Cecilia asked, and I nodded.
"Yes, darling," I answered. Where else could I go? I wasn't even sure if
Chloe was now occupying the spot next to Liam in our bed, and Liam spent his time with her. Perhaps they had moved into the house we had built together near the pack house, where we planned to live after the succession ceremony with Cecilia as the Alpha and Luna.
I sighed, trying to push those thoughts away. The more I dwelled on the past, the more it tormented me, and I needed to stay strong for Cecilia.
The next day flew by, and Sasha arrived a few hours before the party started.
"I thought you could use a hand," she said, and I was grateful for her offer.
We got ready together, and after placing the beautiful tiara on Cecilia's head, we held her hands and walked down together.
The ballroom was beautifully decorated. Cecilia had requested pink balloons, and she was thrilled to see her wish come true.
As the kids began to arrive, even though they hadn’t seen Cecilia in a long time, they greeted her warmly, which she loved.
She looked happy, but her bright eyes lit up even more when she noticed her father enter the room. However, the more excited she became at the sight of him, the quicker her smile faded. Liam hadn’t come alone, of course. Chloe, looking stunning in a beautiful red dress, walked proudly beside him, while Tiffany held her mother’s hand.
Tiffany’s curly blonde hair likely resulted from a long trip to the hairdresser, and I guessed the dress she wore cost $6,000, as Chloe had mentioned. It was pink, almost matching Cecilia’s dress, but Cecilia’s cost only $200.
Liam approached us and kissed Cecilia as a greeting. Even though his relationship with Chloe was evident to some close to him, he still acted like a caring father to Cecilia.
Shortly after, the cake arrived, and we all sang “Happy Birthday” to Cecilia before she blew out the candles. Everyone clapped for her. Liam helped her cut the first piece of cake, which looked too cute on the outside.
Chloe’s gaze often lingered on me, and I didn’t want to lose sight of her or Tiffany either. I worried they might ruin the party out of jealousy, and I felt uneasy when Chloe whispered something to Tiffany. Tiffany winked at her mother and began searching for Cecilia in the middle of the room, where Cecilia was happily playing with the other kids.
Tiffany took one last look at her mother, who smiled and nodded as if to say, "Go and do what I asked you." Then, Tiffany rushed over to the other kids. She quickly found Cecilia and shared something with her. At first, Cecilia shook her head, but Tiffany seemed to beg her, clasping her hands. Eventually, Cecilia shrugged, and Tiffany grabbed her hand, pulling her toward a table filled with drinks for the adults, keeping them out of sight.
Feeling that something was off, I stood up and walked over to the girls to see what they were doing. From my vantage point, I clearly saw Tiffany grab Cecilia's tiara, which hurt Cecilia because her hair was woven around it.
"Give it back to me! That tiara is mine. I got it from Daddy!" I heard Cecilia plead with Tiffany, but Tiffany just laughed at her. "Daddy only buys gifts for me. He hates you," she taunted. Despite this, Cecilia didn’t give up and tried to take the tiara back from Tiffany. However, Tiffany held it tightly and, to prevent Cecilia from getting it, pushed her straight toward the table full of glasses.
My poor baby tried to catch herself and grabbed the tablecloth, but as she fell, she pulled all the glasses down with her, drawing everyone's attention to her.
My entire world collapsed as I watched my little daughter get hit by the glasses, her dress getting spoiled by the drinks. I had just arrived when Tiffany noticed all eyes were on Cecilia. In an instant, she threw herself to the floor and started crying, just like Cecilia was. The difference was that Cecilia's palms were bleeding from supporting herself on the glass shards, while Tiffany was only acting.
"Cecilia, are you okay, darling?" I asked, my voice trembling with worry as I rushed to her side. I pulled her into a tight embrace, feeling her small frame quiver against me. My heart raced as I tried to still the storm of anger rising within me.
"She pushed me!" Tiffany cried out as Liam and Chloe arrived. "I just wanted to try on her tiara because I don't have one, and when she gave it to me, she pushed me! She said that she hopes I will burn in hell. She hates me!" Tiffany sobbed as her mother comforted her, then shot Liam an angry glance.
