Worried sick

The sky had turned dark. The rain had just began falling. I hurriedly ran out of the car to enter inside. I unexpectedly met Kendra standing outside with an umbrella. On seeing me... She ran to meet me, covering me with the umbrella. She look very pissed. Obviously I had a lot of explanations to do. KENDRA’S POV I didn’t say a word until we got into the house. “Ma’am”, I said to her folding my arms as I kept a straight face. “I can explain”, she looked tensed. It didn’t matter. All I wanted was to keep her safe. She has to explain to me why she came back late. I blinked. “I went to see him after work today... we went to the bar a few blocks away, we drank together and then I was curious about him and decided to follow him to his house. We just kissed and as soon as things started getting serious, I stopped and decided to come home... I’m sorry”, She apologized looking at the floor. She knew she couldn’t look me in the eye. I had to slowly calm my anger and brought her in my arms for a hug, “I’m just glad you’re okay... you’re everything to me, you know that.... I was scared that something might have happened to you because you weren’t answering your calls”. I made her pancakes while she went upstairs to shower. I have to say... I’m getting good at cooking, for real. Happy that tomorrow is Saturday, I already planned some movies to watch for the both of us. And it was horror. I love horror movies but for some reason, Rona doesn’t. She’s always frightened. Because of her actions today... I’ll make sure she watches nothing but horror this night. “You know I can’t handle this”, she grumbles as I don’t even listen to her. Luckily for her, she fell asleep 25 minutes after the movie had started. The movie was 2 hours... So she had escaped an hour and 35 minutes horror movie. I laughed to myself watching her sleep peacefully on the couch like a potato bag. Two weeks after movie night, I came back from the supermarket. I tossed the bags I was carrying on the kitchen counter and breathed heavily. I was thinking about what Rona said to me last night, that she would be traveling for a week. Damn I couldn’t stand being home alone everyday. My dad was extremely wealthy, so he refused me working or stressing myself since I was little. I’m 23 now and I think it’s high time I go find myself a job, I don’t really care about the pay, honestly. “Rona?”, I called out, feeling dizzy. “I’m here”, she came from the back door and hurriedly walked up to me hugging me. “You have headaches right?”. I nod in response and watched her as she went into the kitchen coming out with a bottled water and a small tablet. She watched me drink it. In the twinkle of an eye, I had already vomited the drug, ewwww. Drugs weren’t my thing, she knew it. “I’m sorry please”, was all I could say as I watched her disappear into the kitchen to find some cleaning items for the vomit. Minutes after cleaning the entrance, where I vomited, Rona helped undress me and took me to the shower. I shivered at the feeling of the cold water running from my hair to my spine down my feet. I watched steadily as she grabbed the soap and ran it over my damp hair till it started foaming. “You’ll be fine”, she pecked me on the cheeks. I was still feeling cold even after bathing. So she took me downstairs, where I lay beside the furnace. She went upstairs, returning with an injection. I preferred injections to drugs, she knew. The fever alleviated after some time. I was relieved. I didn’t like to see her worried too. She even prepared my favorite meal, taco salad and she served it with cilantro toppings. Very sweet of her to do. The food tasted absolutely delicious I was amazed with how she sprinkled the crushed tortilla chips over the top of the salad, giving it that added crunch. It was perfect indeed.
