It was silent, as though all the sound in the world had been sucked out of it. Yet Henry was happy. The day was brilliant, the sunlight casting harsh, crisp shadows on the sidewalk as Henry followed Vito down Greenview Avenue. Henry knew that this was sort of a game. When Vito turned to look behind him, Henry would duck, laughing, into a doorway or behind a dumpster or some shrubbery.
