Chapter 10:The Assassin Named Raven

564 Words
The Lancaster Mansion was placed on high alert. Armed guards patrolled every entrance. Security cameras were upgraded overnight. No one entered or left without being searched. Inside her bedroom, Isabella stood by the window, staring at the sunrise. Only ten days ago, she had dreamed of becoming Damien Knight's wife. Now... She was the heir to a billion-dollar empire. And someone wanted her dead. A knock came at the door. "Miss Lancaster," the maid said respectfully. "Chairman Edward is waiting for you in the study." Isabella nodded. "I'll be there." Edward was studying several files when she entered. His face looked tired. He hadn't slept all night. "I have something to tell you," he said. He placed a photograph on the table. It showed a beautiful woman with long black hair and piercing blue eyes. She looked no older than thirty. "Who is she?" Isabella asked. Edward's expression darkened. "Her code name is Raven." "She's the Black Serpent Society's best assassin." "They say she has never failed a mission." Isabella studied the photograph. "Has anyone ever seen her?" Edward nodded. "Many have." "But those people are no longer alive." A chill ran down Isabella's spine. Across the city... A woman stepped off a private jet. She wore black sunglasses, a white suit, and red high heels. To everyone else, she looked like a successful businesswoman. No one would have guessed she was one of the world's deadliest killers. She removed her sunglasses and smiled. "So..." "This is the city." Her phone vibrated. The mysterious man's voice came through. "Your target is Isabella Lancaster." Raven smiled. "I've read her file." "Young." "Inexperienced." "Emotional." "This will be easy." The man laughed. "Don't underestimate her." "Others already have." Raven ended the call. She looked at Isabella's photograph. "I never underestimate anyone." "But I always win." Meanwhile... Damien sat alone in his office. He couldn't stop thinking about Isabella. He opened an old drawer. Inside was a small silver bracelet. He smiled sadly. Years ago... Isabella had saved her allowance for months just to buy it for his birthday. He had never worn it. But he had never thrown it away either. His secretary knocked. "Mr. Knight?" "What is it?" "We've discovered who attacked Miss Lancaster." Damien stood immediately. "You found them?" "Not exactly." "But the name Raven keeps appearing in our investigation." Damien's face turned pale. "I've heard that name before." His secretary nodded. "Everyone who crossed her..." "...ended up dead." Damien grabbed his car keys. "I'm going to Lancaster Mansion." The secretary blocked his way. "Sir, it's dangerous." Damien looked him straight in the eyes. "I already failed Isabella once." "I'm not going to fail her again." That evening... A charity fundraiser was being held at one of Lancaster Group's luxury hotels. Edward insisted Isabella attend. "You can't hide forever," he told her. She agreed. Dressed in an elegant emerald-green gown, Isabella entered the ballroom with confidence. Guests applauded as she walked in. Among the crowd... A smiling waitress picked up a tray of drinks. She looked ordinary. Friendly. Harmless. No one noticed the tiny earpiece in her ear. Or the poisoned needle hidden inside her sleeve. She smiled as Isabella walked closer. "Target in sight," she whispered. Then... She looked up. Her blue eyes sparkled. She wasn't a waitress at all. She was... Raven. She smiled. "Let's see if you're lucky enough to survive me."
