Maya leaned in, her voice dropping to a near whisper. “I’ve discovered something, Adrian. Something bigger than I ever imagined.”
Adrian felt a chill run through him, a mix of fear and intrigue. Maya was rarely this intense. He watched as her gaze flickered toward the door, checking to see if anyone might be listening. She was speaking as though revealing a dangerous secret, and he couldn’t help but wonder what had brought her to this point.
“What do you mean?” he asked, keeping his voice low to match hers.
“There are things happening—things that involve people you wouldn’t expect,” she said, each word measured. “I can’t explain it all right now, but you need to trust me. I need you to understand that there’s a bigger picture, and you’re part of it.”
Her words struck him. Adrian had always seen himself as an ordinary man in an ordinary life. But Maya was implying something that defied his understanding, suggesting that he was caught in a web he hadn’t even known existed.
“Maya, you’re scaring me,” he said, trying to mask his growing anxiety. But he couldn’t deny the strange thrill of being drawn into her mystery.
