Chapter Ten (Tommie)

1006 Words
My brain was working thousand miles an hour. Could it be possible ? Could Niall be a dormant wizard ? My head was about to explode. Witches bloodlines were never really extinguished as the genes could be suddenly active after decades without any magic apparently running in the family. It happened before. Maybe it was happening to Niall to. It made sense. I looked at him like I saw him for the first time. I always assumed he was human from the day we met. I sensed no magic in him. I had no reason to dig. But now that I was probing him, I could notice what Greer said was right. I recognised my magic. It was shining in a lilac colour. It was mixed with another colour though, his own magic. It was weak but it was there. It turned to my grandmother. « You think that my magic woke his ? » « I think that your blood did. » She wasn’t happy with what I did and I couldn’t blame her. I never talked nor used my blood magic for a reason and I just threw everything away the minute I thought Niall was about to die. « I don’t get it. What is that power of yours ? » asked Niall « You can create wizard ? » Greer and I exchanged a worried look. This wasn’t good. We couldn’t afford to have him snooping around and talking about this ability. I took it upon me to deal with it. I came closer to him. « No, I can’t. Look. That night, you weren’t just injured, you were on the verge of death, Niall, beyond any healing ability. My magic is… special. It’s not something anyone can do. I had to use my blood to regenerate anything that needed to be. And doing so, I apparently « fixed » your dormant genes. I didn’t create anything that wasn’t already there. But Niall, this is not something you can talk about. If you’re asked, just say that I healed you and that’s all. No one can know. » « Of course. I wouldn’t do anything to put you in jeopardy, Tommie. » The knot in my stomach loosened a bit and I gave him a grateful smile. I felt Greer’s eyes on me but I voluntarily ignored her. « Is it the reason why I… you know, like Tommie’s blood ? » Scenes from that night came back to hunt me. The sensation of his lips on my tender skin, his tongue, the look on Niall’s face…. My belly cramped. Crap. I looked away. « No », Greer said while closing her book. « I think your body is trying to use more mana that it can produce for now. It recognises Tommie’s and thinks it’s your own. That why you’re drown to it. And that’s why you’re starving all the time. » « Did you find his bloodline ? » I asked « Not in the one but I’ve got plenty others. Until he can produce enough mana, he’ll stay in the state. » « So I need to embrace being a wizard or life will be hell ? » Niall asked « Pretty much », Greer answered. « Tommie, you made this mess, you deal with it. » I almost protested but her look shot me down. How was I supposed to teach him magic ? I was no teacher ! She was a much obvious choice than I was but she was punishing me like a child. I gritted my teeth, refusing to give her the satisfaction to give me a clear order. « And how do we deal with his… urges in the meantime ? » I asked « Satisfy them », she blurred out, shrugging. « What, you want to open a vein anytime his angry ? » Greer rolled her eyes and sighed like she was running out of patience with my stupidity. So much for family affection. « There are many ways to satisfy magic appetites, my dear. Now off you go. I’ve got plenty to do. » And as if we were already gone, she sat at her desk and get going. My goddess, that woman was so infuriating ! « Let’s go », I said to Niall before turning around and walking out of the office I felt like I had more questions now than when we arrived. Greer was right. I made a huge mess. I couldn’t keep moping around about it any longer. I needed to find solutions and she gave me leads. It was up to me to fix everything. I owed Niall to make things right for him. I ripped him of his life to throw him into the great unknown. The least I could do was to smoothen this transition and to make sure that he was okey. I still had to figure out why the ghoul tracked him down. About that, Greer said nothing. Looked like I had plenty on my plate for the time being. « So », Niall started as we reached the car. « This is quite the family you have, uh ? Thomasina. » I stopped and turned around to look at him. I hated that I was blushing as much as I hated that name. To everyone, I was Tommie. I was really young when I made that statement about myself. No one was to ever call me Thomasina, though my grandmother didn’t care. I grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him closer. That insolent man dared to keep smiling. « Don’t you dare talk about it to anyone or I’ll make your life a living hell, you hear me ? » « I’ll think about it », he smiled. Goddess ! Since when was he so cheeky ? « Get in the car ! » I blurred out I stormed inside and slammed the door harder that I needed to. It didn’t prevent me to hear him laugh though.
