He was right, a night of rest, protected from the nasties in the forest, would be priceless. “Hello? Is anyone home?” he called out. For several pregnant seconds, we waited in silence, our eyes cautiously scanning the area. “Why, hello friends,” came a woman’s serene voice from behind us. I jumped out of my skin, but Knight never even twitched. A woman glided around from the other side of the tree to where we stood. She was about four feet tall and rather wide with deep brown, weathered skin. Her black hair was wound into a loose bun on the top of her head, and she wore a long dress that was masterfully sewn together from a beautiful array of multicolored leaves. Her face was kind, but my initial instinct was to be somewhat wary after so many years dealing with Unseelie and Shadow Fae. K
