Unknown Curse

1001 Words
As I sit watching everyone run around for my next trip out I notice Ren continue to pause in thought. Does he not want to send me back? Is he worried about who is destined king is? "Ren..." HE stops and slowly turns to me. "What is bothering you to the point that you can not work?" He sighs and comes to sit next  to me. "You found your Destined and I am happy for you, but..." He goes quiet as if trying to figure out how to say he next words. "Its okay. Just tell me." I put my hand on his back. "A Destined can be a curse. They never tell you the down sides of finding your other half." He looks at me with worry in his eyes. "What do you mean a curse? They are supposed to be our perfect match." He shakes his head. "There is a book in the elders library that explains the side effects of finding your Destined." He starts to stand and walk away, but I quickly grab his arm. "Where is the book? I must know the dangers." He looks around and leans to my ear. "Third floor behind the gated door. It should be easy for the Queen to access." I nod and make my way our of the lab leaving without saying another word. I need to know if I should go back. My heart cries to return and my soul feels empty already without him by my side, but my mind is stronger than my heart. At least for now. I push the door open and the light shines down the dark tunnel. I run out without checking the door behind me before quickly jumping into the air and transforming to my Dragon form. I pump my wings quickly to try and get to the library as fast as possible. I need to stop the ache in my chest. I need to know why I am so attached to the wolf after half a day in his world. I need to know why I almost told him everything. I breath hot air under me belly to increase my speed. Finally the castle comes into view. I turn to the right to head to the library just behind my chambers of the castle. The landing balcony comes into view and I change forms except for my wings to help me glide down safely. I am met by Clement who looks relived to see me. "Welcome back you highness." He bows  in respect and waits till I return his greeting. "Thank you Clement. Are the elders around?" He stands and shakes his head. "They went into town after they saw you leave the castle for a flight. We were starting to worry as you normally do not leave for so long." I nod and head towards the library. "I had business to attend to. I only returned for some documentation from the records hall." I rushes in front of me. "The records hall is the other way." I push him aside. "Not those records. I need to go through the gate for what I am looking for." He stops in his tracks as I continue my walk to the gated door. The library is a maze for those who do not know their way around. Lucky for me this was my favorite place as a child and I know it better than the elders. I walk past rows and mountains of books until I reach the elevator. The large glass doors glide open and I enter. It starts to ascend to the 3rd floor as I watch the books that are centuries old fly by. The doors open and at the end of the hall is a gate. Their is no key hole and no door knob. This was an enchanted door that only opened under the heat of Dragons flame. It couldn't be just any Dragon of course. They had to be old enough to be an elder or strong enough to be royal blood. I approach the door, take a deep breath, and release a controlled string of fire that makes the gate glow. It slowly drops into the ground as I stop my fire. I enter the room and see old books that travel the walls and a few on pedestals in the center of the room. Each pedestal holds the history of each King and Queen from the past. My pedestal holds no book as I am still ruling. I walk further into the room and notice a pedestal in the back holding a small book bound in red velvet. I slowly walk to the book and see the engraving Destined on the cover in gold ink. I begin to flip the the book until I find a page titled Curse. "Destined ones can bring out every aspect of their other half. You will unconsciously tell them your deepest darkest secrets to allow you to truly become one. Once completing the Binding Ceremony, you will have access to one another's thoughts, dreams, and strength. You will be stronger together and weaker apart. The longer you and your other half are apart, the more strain will be put onto your body and could lead to death." That I why father was always so sick. After mothers death he never truly smiled. He would act happy around me, but he seemed like a shell. I...I can t go back. I cant make my people suffer or be in danger for my own selfish reasons. If I were to die how could I leave a wolf to lead my people. What if he doesn't want to be my King? I am glad I didn't stay long enough to have the truth revealed, but I still feel like I need to say good bye. I am torn between myself and my duty. I sink to the floor and think of what I should do as a Queen and what I should do as a female.
