CHAPTER THIRTY In case you were wondering, here’s what happens when you die: any pain you feel on the threshold of death pops, and then you don’t feel anything. You float, and you don’t leave the place you died. Not right away. Your soul flashes over your body and you’re exactly where you died, but you don’t see it the same way. Everything is muted in a gray haze. Your sense of perception is warped, and you only perceive what needs to be perceived—for the dead, they don’t need to see details because they can see the essence of things. Whether or not someone is wearing a blue shirt has nothing to do with the greater scheme of the universe. What matters is how they are. And, of course, you wait around for a reaper, which isn’t long.
