The doctor is an old man who's been running for five years and old men going mad in the dark will say anything—" "I know." "—and if you have proof you'd have charged me by now, so this is theater, and I—" She stopped. "You know?" "I know you don't confess." Sierra pulled the second chair around and sat down in it. "You never have. Not once in seventeen years. You broke your mother's mirror when we were eleven and let them beat me for it, and when I asked you about it that night you cried and told me you'd never do such a thing, and Vanessa — you believed it. That's what I've never been able to get past." She tilted her head.
