Mark Foley steadied his nerves and addressed Kelvin and his men, his voice calm but firm. "Gentlemen, please calm down. I understand your eagerness, but I never promised to reveal the tunnel. I simply warned that it would expose my illegal activities. However, if you insist, we'll have to find a way to escape through the police blockade."
Kelvin's eyebrows shot up in surprise at Mark's suggestion. The tension was palpable on the faces of everyone present. Before Kelvin could speak, Mark continued, "But first, let's not forget, our discussion is not over yet."
Kelvin's face contorted with frustration. "You're willing to kill cops just to keep your secrets? And they call me crazy," he muttered before turning to his men. "Let's leave the cars and find our way through the woods. We'll surely come across a road that leads back to the city."
Mark's stern gaze met Kelvin's angry one. He knew that look all too well. "We haven't finished negotiating," he reminded Kelvin.
With a challenging glare, Kelvin and his men ran into the woods, leaving Mark behind. He watched them disappear into the foliage, relieved that they were gone. He quickly instructed his men to enter the tunnel through the hidden staircase.
As they made their way through the underground tunnel, a loud noise rang out, growing louder and closer with every passing second. Mark's usually cool demeanor faltered as he tried to come up with a plan to deal with the unexpected threat.
Following the noise, getting louder, Mark Foley braced himself and his men for a showdown with the police. He thought they were onto him and his men. Suddenly, a familiar figure could be seen coming down the staircase. There was a shocked expression on Mark Foley's face when he recognized the person. He lowered his gun and ordered his men to do the same. Mark took a step forward and said, "I almost shot you down. Even my men would have shot you down earlier if I hadn't stopped them." Laughing maniacally, the stranger spoke with a calm demeanor, "If I hadn't pretended to leave early, you would have gotten us all killed. Even worse, the police would have declared most of us wanted," concluded the stranger. The stranger was none other than Kelvin. He had pretended to leave earlier to get Mark Foley to show him his secret tunnels. Realizing he had been tricked by Kelvin, Mark Foley replied, "What will stop me from killing you right now?" Kelvin's smile turned sinister as he replied, "I am never alone. Did you really think I would trust you enough to come down here alone?" Mark Foley was surprised to see nearly all of Kelvin's men, who he thought had left, appearing behind Kelvin again.
"There's no need to look surprised," lambasted Kelvin. "I know you very well, my old friend. I'm surprised you didn't realize it sooner," concluded Kelvin. Mark Foley was trying very hard to compose himself once he realized he had fallen into Kelvin's hands. Clapping both hands together, Mark Foley said the words "well played" again and again. There was a glow on Kelvin's face when he realized Mark Foley couldn't do anything about the situation. "Shall we continue on our journey out of here and escape to a safe location?" said Kelvin smugly. Mark Foley didn't want to press the issue any further, so he sighed before pointing to his men to continue leading the way. After about ten to fifteen minutes of walking, they arrived at another section of the tunnel system, where they walked upwards through a staircase. Finally, they came out through the secret entrance of the building and straight into the kitchen of a restaurant.
The kitchen staff immediately recognized Mark Foley and his men, while giving Kelvin and his men a suspicious look. Kelvin was not bothered by this. Instead, he suspected that this place could be one of Mark Foley's private restaurants. As they walked into the main restaurant, everywhere became quiet enough to hear a pin drop. The people in the restaurant stared directly at Mark Foley first, and then at Kelvin and his men, as if trying hard to decrypt what was going on.
Mark Foley was the first person to break the silence by gesturing to Kelvin and his men to have a seat. Kelvin nodded in acknowledgment while glancing at all the people in the restaurant. He thought to himself, "We are outnumbered and outmatched." He gave his men a stern look, indicating for them to be on their guard.
Mark Foley broke out in a fit of laughter at Kelvin's thoughts, then replied, "You still don't have much faith in me, my old friend." Being both a former friend and current frenemy of Kelvin's, Mark was well aware of Kelvin's tendencies. "Rest assured that no one will meet their demise within the walls of my restaurant tonight," Mark added before his voice trailed off. Kelvin, sensing a sinister undertone, wasted no time in asking, "But what about outside? Can you promise us safe passage from this place?"
After hesitating for a moment, Mark's face broke into a wide smile. He then turned to Kelvin and his men and spoke with a confident tone. "You are all free to leave whenever you wish. I assure you, your journey through my territory will be without any danger." Kelvin gave Mark a slight nod, showing his gratitude. However, deep down, he knew not to fully trust this cunning man. "Unfortunately, we must depart now as we have no further business tonight," added Kelvin, motioning for his men to start leaving immediately. But Mark stopped them with a plea, "Wait, you cannot just leave like that. You have been privy to our secrets, which could pose a problem for us going forward." Kelvin's eyebrow raised in surprise at the change in Mark's tone.
Kelvin asked incredulously, "So what happened to the safe passage you assured us of earlier? Or was it all just a facade?" Mark Foley chuckled maniacally in response and taunted, "If you were in my shoes and someone had just uncovered all your confidential information, what would you have done?" Kelvin paused, fully aware of the answer. He would have undoubtedly found a way to eliminate any potential threats permanently. The tone of the conversation was ominous and calculating.
