"What the f**k b***h?" Amara's voice resonated round the car. The radio stereo that was on could hardly be heard self. "Not the f word please, I wasn't in the mood for that take my number game" I rubbed my temples as I droned hoping that she would get the message and keep quiet but have I mentioned that Amara is the dumbest person I've ever met? Of course she continued with her endless rant. "You met someone, he's handsome and he likes you...." "How do you know that he likes me?" I interrupted Amara in her moment of epic story telling "b***h. Shut. The f**k. Up." She said laying emphasis on each word as she took them slowly. Drama queen "Did you say something darling?" She asked in the perfect evil voice that made me involuntarily shudder. "No, please carry on" fish I was sure to not say 'the fish' aloud. "Do you think it was a coincidence that you were tired, went to the cafe and met jhay. It was serendipity" She waved her right hand in a dramatic way. I spared her a glance as I took in her appearance. Why on earth do I call this child my best friend? Maybe because she's fine or because she is excessively dumb and makes me feel high peak smart. Yes, that's definately it. Amara was light skinned, but not the type that you wouldn't want her going under the harsh sun. She was slim, but bigger than me in the slightest way possible. Hour glass shape, that was my best friend and guess what? The best part is she's also a tad bit taller than me. She didn't have dimples, and I had even though mine were slightly noticeable. I was brought back to reality as the car came to an abrupt halt that made me jerk forward. "Why in God's name are you checking me out?" My best friend spat beside me looking a little bit frightened. "What? No! Hell no, I can't be checking you out. I'm strictly d**k meat" I almost shouted. I'm sure my face looked like I wanted to puke. She smiled widely at me and nodded satisfied. "Good, I prefer having you as a pervert than someone that wants to get in my pants" Ewww!!! I opened my door immediately and flew out. I could hear Amara's laughter as I started making my way to our room. Tomorrow she would call me the pervert. You thought her I didn't I argued with that little voice in my head before I began ascending the flight of stairs. ★ ☆ I felt something shift beside me. Someone switched on the light and I used my pillow to shield my eyes. I had to complete this dream. Wait It was already fading, I couldn't see my happy family again. Come back! Maybe if I slept a while longer I would be able to press play on my dream. I heard Amara's footsteps as she probably walked into the bathroom. Early bird. The darkness was slowly taking over me, Just some seconds and I would find the dream remote. That didnt happen as the shrill voice of Camilla Cabello's 'bad things' made me groan. Who was calling me this early morning? I tried to drown out the sound of the music but when it played again I knew that my sleep had officially been ruined. Remind me to put a nice lullaby as my ringtone in case of next time. I hoped there wouldn't be a next time. "Hello" my groggy voice said to whoever was at the other end of the line. I didn't even bother checking before I picked the call. "My baby, did I wake you up from your beauty sleep?" My mother teased. She seemed to find this funny. "No mom, you just made my day" I replied having the urge to pinch her. The sarcasm was clearly heard in my voice. Her high pitched laughter made me withdraw the phone from my ears and scrunch my face in annoyance. When I was sure she had had enough of her moment I placed it back on my ears and stood up. The sound of running water splashing on the floor could be heard loudly. "You have to be there" My mom concluded but the problem was I hadn't even heard the beginning of her long speech. "Uhmm.. I'm sorry Mom I wasn't paying attention" I whispered Waiting for her to lash out on me. She hissed, then grumbled something I couldn't hear but she didn't lash out. Thank God. "Your Dad organized a dinner with an investor, and he said that the whole family has to be there, including you. It's a big deal and means so much to him, you have to be there. If you like tell me you didn't hear again, then I'll be sure you've gone deaf" She finally lashed out, I was too quick to judge. Amara walked into the room with a Minnie mouse towel wrapped around her perfect body. Her braids were in a transparent shower cap. She splashed some water on my face. "I'll try to be there, when is the dinner?" I aimed the hardcover note in my hand at her and she smartly dodged giggling like a lovestruck school girl. "Tonight" "What the?" I held my self before I could complete the sentence. Amara raised her eyebrows at me in a questioning manner. I just held my hands in a gesture that meant 'wait' and sat back on the bed. "Mom, it's too soon, I've got plans for today, why are you just telling me now?" There seemed to be some noise in the background, I think someone was asking my mom what she would eat this morning. I couldn't quite catch her reply. "Baby girl you have to come home, don't get your dad upset. I'll see you tonight then. Bye!" My mom didn't give me time to protest again as she quickly disconnected the call. "Is something wrong?" Amara questioned as she looked into the wardrobe. "My dad organized some sort of business dinner, I hate it when he mixes his business with family." My voice rose. I was fuming. I couldn't keep the anger out of my voice. If someone just heard our conversation they would think Amara was the cause of my anger. "Sorry sha, just forget about it for tonight. You're still going out with me right?" There was silence. I didn't know how to tell her that it was tonight. "Segun is coming, so which one should I wear? The blue or the yellow one?" Amara asked holding up two dresses on hanger. "Blue, and Amara?" I paused as I waited for her to look at me "I don't know which other way to say this nicely but I'm not coming again because the business dinner is tonight" There, I said it. Silence. Her frown broke into a huge smile. I was expecting her to be mad that I was ditching her. "Alright na, I'll just call off the outing then surprise Segun, I'm sure we would have a blast time in his room" She replied nonchalantly like there wasn't a meaning to 'have a blast time in his room' "Child of the world, I'm not ready to become an aunty" Amara turned to glare at me and I ran into the bathroom before she would come up with a good plan to deal with me and my small mouth. I turned the faucet of the tap and waited for a while for hot water to come out. Looks like as Amara would be having a 'blast' time in her boyfriend's room, I'll be having my own blast time with my parents and some strange family. The food better be great.
