The Vials of Discord

426 Words
I started wandering what that thing was while reaching with my hand the abandoned cylinder. I recognized what it was as soon as I held it in my hands. It’s a lab canister, usually used to transfer liquids in controlled temperatures and environments. But this one was quite small, it can easily fit in my palm. Whatever is stored here, it must be precious, considering they have gone to great extents to protect it; also proven by the attempts of that stranger to grab it before leaving. I turn my back to the crowd and head for a more discreet place to open it. Pressing the familiar buttons and twisting the top, two vials appear: one with a vibrant blue liquid and one crimson red. The second one must be blood; it looks too familiar. But the first one is where I am puzzled. It resembles the substance found inside the Xenos, but this one looks like it’s….. glowing. I glance around out of insecurity and put everything back into its place and the canister inside my coat, the last thing I want is to draw any attention. After finishing my groceries here, I head towards the exit and nod the guards to let me through. They double check the information with what I provided earlier and the let me be on my merry way. While outside, I hastily go to the crucified creature and get some of the “blood”, so I have a nice sample to continue any research and compare it with those vials back home. The two blue liquids seemed related and could have a connection. Plus, no one would care enough to stop me. On my right, I notice that the hydrangeas are now fully blossomed. I always had a soft spot for them and they would look pretty in the infirmary. Perhaps, I could offer some to the cook’s daughter, to whom I have taking a fancy lately. I quickly shake all of those thoughts and disregard them. The questions about these…things are piling on themselves and I am burning to find answers. My curiosity makes me pick up the pace while walking back and I manage to arrive in half the time. To my annoyance, a band of city guards were waiting for me, accompanied by that mysterious runner, although this time, they had a shotgun against his head. “Hope you had a pleasant trip” said one of them, probably the person in charge. “It was until now”, I replied while looking around and noticing all the residents have their eyes on the situation.
