I grab Amanda by the hand.
“Drop everything, we are moving, now!”
We both get in the backseat and I instruct Alex in the driver’s seat where to drive to. He is usually a careful driver, but I don’t know how well he’ll function in such pressure; I don’t blame him though. He punches it and we are getting out of here as fast as possible. About halfway till we are out of the city, the sounds of crushing buildings can be heard and people running around for their lives, screaming and shouting, while gunshots can also be heard in the distance. Not long after I can see on in the distance, and I confirm they look exactly as I remember them. We are almost out of the city, so I tell the rest of the folk to hang on and have faith in me. At least now, they believe me. Once out of it, the rest of the road was ironically quiet and calm. The only thing not calm were the people around me.
“I beg of you, once we reach the village outside Castaic, we will be safe. We can talk more there. For now, please just let me have an as clear as I can mind”
Thankfully, everything went smoother that I had prepared. Another odd thing that happened is that Xenos had already attacked Castaic, demolished a part of it and they were laying there dead; a different thing from what I remember happened. This is really bad. It means that I was also lucky I made it this far and that not everything goes exactly as happened already.
We arrive at the village and I could tell that mass hysteria had taken place. Some were cowering, others were hiding and a few decided to leave for a safer place. I feel a bit sad for the last ones, but I and the people following me continue towards the huge house and storage area I had secured for us. The extra measures for security, who I haven’t spotted since I got here, weren’t needed, as no Xeno was in sight, but better be safe than sorry.
Afraid of what can possibly happen, especially considering that some things might not go as planned, I instruct Amanda and Alex to transfer everything from the car to the house, I tell Richard to go gather some food supplies from the stores to the house during this chaos and I go over to my parents to reassure them that everything will be fine as long as they stayed locked up and that I will provide whatever they needed. After both Rick and I got back in once piece, we followed the advice I gave previously and stayed cooped for 3 days. Amanda found the weapons, but in the state she was, she didn’t even bother to say anything and just helped unpack. During our stay, I told them more about the life I had and went through everything that had happened to me. As expected, they were as captivated as a kid hearing superhero stories. Amanda had the biggest shock out of all and I made sure to reassure her, hug her and tell her that everything will be alright. I wasn’t that phased, I have been through all of this already, with more… dire consequences. Keeping a straight face and stillness while waiting it out and going out to also reassure my parents wasn’t that hard. I wish I could bring them to our place of isolation, but the last thing I wanted them to see is this whole operation I had set up and bombarding me with questions while dealing with their usual insecurities. Divide and conquer, Simon, divide and conquer…
