Phillipa looked at the poster for the museum opening with longing. There was an exhibit she had been dying to see but she was never able to make it and it looks like she was going to miss it. It was the last week the traveling exhibit on the h*******t was going to be at the State museum, and she had classes along with work to do. She let out a deep sigh and started to continue on her walk to work.
"I'm headed there now; do you want to come with me?" She turned to look at the origins of the voice and her jaw almost dropped to the ground. The most handsome man she had ever seen stared at her with striking hazel eyes. After a moment she managed to close her mouth and utter a small,
"Excuse me?" He quirked his amazingly full lips and said,
"The exhibit, I'm headed to the museum now, would you like to come with me?" his voice was low, smooth but a little raspy and it had a hint of an accent that she couldn't place. She could listen to him talk for hours, she idly wondered if he recorded any of those books on tape because she'd definitely buy them. He looked at her expectantly and she finally realized that he was waiting for a reply, what was with her she doesn't react this way to guys. Hell, guys don't even notice her half the time unless they want her to pass something to them.
"Ummm, I wish I could but I have class," She finally responded. He gave her a small mischievous smile and replied,
"Oh, come on you know you want to go." She couldn't help but smile, she took in the man before her. He had to be in his mid-twenties like her, his sharp features and dark facial hair complemented his light skin tone. She couldn't tell the color of his hair because he was wearing a dark colored beanie on his head, he still looked hot as hell though. She couldn't tell his body type because it was bundled under a winter coat just like she was, but she would have to say he was trimmed and toned. She had no idea what prompted her to answer with an affirmative.
"All right, but I can't miss work," a smile lit up his face displaying dazzling white teeth as he grabbed her hand and they started off for the museum. She was too shocked to pulled away from him, but the warmth radiating from his hand seemed to seep from her hands and spread to the rest of her body.
"What time do you have to work?" he said after a prolonged silence of them simply walking hand in hand toward the museum.
"My shift starts at five, but I need to get there fifteen minutes early to prep." Flip, as everyone at the diner called her worked at an old diner out on the edge of town. It was away from the college but it was the closest thing she had left of a family so she would always be there.
She couldn't believe she was skipping classes, albeit it was only lecture days, no test, quizzes, or group assignments to be done today but she never missed class. This was her senior year she was almost free. She was older than your typical college student, her parents were killed in a car accident two years ago, and she was left completely adrift. She took off a year to grieve and deal with her parent’s death. She was completely alone, the only thing she had left of them was the home she grew up in, she was able to pay it off with her parent’s life insurance policy but it took a huge chunk out of it. So, she started working at the diner her and her parents practically lived at because her mother couldn't boil water. She worked to make money, and so she could be around people who knew them it comforted her. While most people wouldn't have liked it, she loved when the people at the diner told stories of her parents with a sad smile.
But there was a pull to this man that she couldn't explain. She looked up at him with a shy smile on her face,
"Can I ask you something?" He gave her a big smile.
"Anything baby." She gave a small laugh at the familiar term that came so easy,
"What's your name?" He let out a big guffaw that sounded a little rusty to her ears, and he gave her a little boy smile.
"That might help huh? My name is Luka, but all my friends call me Luk."
"I'm Phillipa, but everyone calls me Flip."
