As much as I wanted this and as much as I constantly desired this moment deeming it the epitome of my existence, I had to stop him. "Rico, please. It was one time, you can't base everything on a kiss." I began but he cut me off. "It's not working out for Denise and I, we've been trying to work it out for quite some time now it's just not the same anymore... Let's quit playing ourselves here." He stepped away from me realizing he was definitely too close. "Okay, okay, I do admit, the vibe between us has always been there, but Denise is my best friend, I can't do this to her, I can't." I said closing my eyes wanting the earth to just open up and swallow me whole. "I never even dreamed about making a move because of your friendship with Denise, but I'm right here telling you to your face that I can't stand being away from you anymore."
How long had he been feeling the same way? Why didn't he say something sooner, my pondering was interrupted by his voice. "Oh f**k this..." He let out a sigh and in one step he was right in front of me, nose to nose, his breathing was ragged, he held my waist and pulling my face into his, I melted in his kiss, savoring his tongue it tasted like iced tea, his favorite drink. I became wrapped up in his kiss for a brief moment but I pulled away shaking my head, what I really wanted to do was wrap my legs around him and forget everything, including my name, but I couldn't do it, I pushed him away. "We can't do this Rico, not again, you have to figure out a way to make it work with her, this can't happen between us."
He pressed his forehead against mine, sucking in a breath. "She's not even a good friend to you, need I remind you?" He exhaled as I knit my eyebrows together, he was right. "Remember when she quit the magazine thinking you were gonna quit with her because she didn't like the sales we had at the beginning? And when you didn't quit what happened? She refused to speak to you for a month Luna, that's not a friend." He got visibly upset and agitated before he continued. "Or what about the time she upstaged you on your birthday claiming she did it all for you? or how she got mad when you announced that you got the Dear Luna column, remember that?" I shook my head, yes Denise was selfish, egotistical and not the best human when it came to her actions, she was a petty brat. "She might not be the best person in the world but she is in fact my best friend, and I believe in karma Rico and if we do this it's gonna bite both of us in the ass, that makes us no better than her." He chuckled as if I was telling some sort of joke.
"Karma? The only punishment in all of this is not being able to f**k you right in this office." My mouth hung open, my tongue searched for words. "Rico! Call Denise, and get out of my office!" I said the words but I lacked the conviction in them, and he noticed it. He pulled on his tie lowering the knot a bit, coming closer again he held my face in his hands and kissed me again, soft, caring, a tender kiss. "Next time you kick me out of anywhere, including your office, make sure you mean it." He pressed his lips onto mine one last time and bit my lower lip, wiping his mouth he smirked and walked out of my office. Air, I needed air.
