Chapter 5: Danger Approaches

Su Qian felt an inexplicable sense of oppression shrouding her life. Every day when she woke up, she still faced Li Tingchuan's cold eyes and his cold heart that she could not touch. And she was still just a substitute, a woman who was forced to marry into a wealthy family.

Although she repeatedly told herself to be strong and not be defeated by this loveless marriage, the emptiness and loneliness in her heart eroded her reason again and again. She was used to spending every lonely night alone and suppressing her emotions just to be able to live quietly in this luxurious home.

However, things did not seem to calm down as she thought.

On this day, Li Tingchuan suddenly asked her to accompany him to an important business banquet. Su Qian did not ask much, but silently prepared suitable clothes and dressed herself as usual. She knew that these occasions were nothing more than an ignored existence for her, just like her position in this marriage-an uncared background.

However, when she stood in the center of the banquet hall, she suddenly felt a dangerous breath. That intuition told her that something was about to happen.

Li Tingchuan did not show much concern for her, and even after the banquet began, he hardly talked to her. She stood alone, listening to the whispers in the crowd around her, and occasionally felt a few curious eyes cast over, as if they were full of curiosity and doubt about her identity as a substitute bride.

Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in front of Su Qian-Lu Chenyi.

She couldn't help but be slightly stunned, and her heart beat faster. Lu Chenyi's appearance was not accidental, because of his competitive relationship with Li Tingchuan, he should have been the opposite of this banquet. However, he appeared here tonight, and for some reason, his eyes stayed on her, as if she was the only focus of his attention.

She lowered her head and pretended not to see it. But she felt a little uneasy in her heart.

"Su Qian." Lu Chenyi's voice suddenly sounded, and he called softly behind her with a hint of tenderness and concern.

Su Qian turned around, smiling, but still couldn't hide her inner tension. "Boss Lu, why are you here too?"

"My company and Li's have some cooperation negotiations." Lu Chenyi smiled faintly, but his eyes inadvertently swept across her face, as if trying to capture her inner fluctuations. "You don't look very comfortable, are you very tired?"

"No, maybe I've been standing for a long time." Su Qian tried to make her tone sound more natural, although her heart was still beating abnormally fast.

Lu Chenyi stared at her, as if he wanted to say something, but after seeing Li Tingchuan beside her, he was silent for a moment. His eyes became deep, and he gently distanced himself from her.

"If you are tired, you can go and rest first." He said softly, with a hint of imperceptible concern in his tone.

Su Qian nodded slightly, "Thank you, I will pay attention."

At this moment, Li Tingchuan suddenly came over and stood beside her. He glanced at Lu Chenyi coldly, and his eyes seemed to contain dissatisfaction and warning. "Boss Lu, Su Qian is my wife." His tone was neither light nor heavy, but it was full of a strong possessiveness.

Lu Chenyi curled his lips and looked at Li Tingchuan with a smile, "I know, she is Boss Li's wife." He smiled faintly, then turned and left, leaving a cold back.

Su Qian's heart was throbbing. Lu Chenyi's departure did not leave her much time to think deeply, and Li Tingchuan's appearance made her feel his invisible oppression again. She looked up at him, his cold eyes seemed to be able to see through everything, but could never touch it.

"What did you talk about with Lu Chenyi just now?" Li Tingchuan did not leave immediately, but his low voice swept across her ears like a cold wind.

"Nothing." Su Qian paused slightly and looked up at him. "Just a simple greeting."

Li Tingchuan narrowed his eyes, with a hint of danger in his eyes. "You know I don't like him to get close to you." His voice was low and cold, as if every word carried an irresistible threat.

Su Qian's heartbeat suddenly accelerated. She knew that Li Tingchuan's control desire had far exceeded her imagination. If he was indifferent and ruthless to her before, now his attitude has turned into an invisible bondage.

She took a deep breath and said calmly: "I know."

However, despite the countless complex emotions in her heart, she knew that she seemed to have no choice in this marriage. No matter how ruthless Li Tingchuan was, no matter how he controlled her life, she could only bear it silently until she could no longer bear it.

The dinner continued, and Su Qian's heart was like a surging wave. She felt an irresistible danger approaching. Li Tingchuan's indifference and control, Lu Chenyi's care and warmth, seemed to interweave a more complicated mystery in her heart.
