The Hunter And IT'S Prey

990 Words
The morning wasn't greeted with rays of sunshine, but with the smell of blood, and the sound of the staff’s screaming. My eyes snapped open, soon after Elena, barged into my room, alongside Jacob and Alvin. The blood moon has set, but John and Mr Bones were still at it, it's like they never get tired when it comes to war. I sat up, without hesitation Jacob, dragged us out of there, we couldn't engage with them due to Alvin injury, and the Williams were aware of this, that we will let our guard down. That was the original plan, to rest some days before resuming, but I guess John saw through it, and regardless of his father's condition, they still insist on fighting. We were able to leave the hotel in time, but the news reached us that they ensured every one was dead before setting the building, alongside their staff ablaze. Elana stepped in, carrying a fresh change of clothes and a tablet showing real-time news feeds from yesterday. Her usual composure was frayed around the edges, her eyes darting briefly to my hands as if expecting them to ignite. "The news is calling it a localized seismic event paired with a catastrophic industrial gas explosion," Elana said, turning the screen toward me. Aerial footage showed the Williams central fortress reduced to a smoking, sunken crater. "The authorities are baffled. The bedrock beneath the facility literally liquified. But John and his father aren’t among the recovered casualties. They got out before the deep collapse, Alice." "Of course they did," I murmured, sliding into the new sets of clothes. "Rats are excellent at finding the pipes before the ship sinks. But there is more, the people who attacked us this morning weren't the Smith family, I believe they are hiding, what should we do?, we have no idea where he was going. While in the new location, medics attended to Alvin, to ensure he received proper treatment. "Jacob is waiting for you in the study. She added before leaving. The Smith family agreed to make an alliance with you, was for the happiness of my so sister. Last night will be the very last time you will pull a stunt like that, just to remind you, it's our life that's on the line. I caught my reflection in the vanity mirror as I stood steering at my reflection. The first thought I had was the realization that we needed to leave the country. It's been almost a week since we came all the way here , and since we needed to lay low for the main time, to avoid unexpected visitors. The current hotel’s private study was dimly lit, smelled of black coffee and gun oil. Jacob was standing by the window, his large frame silhouetted against the morning light. When I walked in, he didn’t smile his usual wicked smirk. His posture was rigid, his dark eyes calculating as they tracked my every movement across the Persian rug. You are still awake,? he said, his voice a low vibration. "Alvin’s alive, in case you were wondering. He’s too stubborn to let a bullet stop him from doing his job." "I knew he would be," I replied, taking a seat at the heavy mahogany desk, intentionally claiming the position of authority in the room. "Sit down, Jacob. We have an empire to dismantle, and standing by the window makes you an easy target for whatever John has left." Jacob walked over, but instead of sitting, he leaned his palms flat against the desk, looming over me. "Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, Alice. That wasn't just a tactical ambush. You fractured the tectonic plate beneath a three-story facility. The Smith family deals in shadows, leverage, and firepower. We don't deal in whatever... myth you just pulled out of the ground." "You wanted the Williams inheritance, Jacob. Did you think their legacy was just a bank account and a few shipping manifests?" I leaned back, looking up at him without a flinch. "They spent decades trying to lock me down because my blood carries the frequency of the land their foundations were built on. John dragged me all the way here because of some ritual, they might also be the one behind the death of my parents. I did what I had to do to ensure we all got out alive, so tell me Jacob was I wrong?. Jacob stared at me for a long, tense moment. Slowly, the rigid tension in his jaw gave way to a sharp, dangerous grin. The fear had turned back into fascination. "A weapon we can't predict is a liability, Alice. But a weapon the enemy can't predict? That’s an execution sentence." He straightened up and tossed a physical blueprint onto the desk. "While you were sleeping, our scouts tracked three encrypted calls originating from a private airfield just outside the city limits. John didn’t go to ground. He’s consolidating what’s left of the Williams loyalists at their secondary fallback point—the old maritime foundry by the docks. He knows you’re alive, he knows you have the Smiths, and he’s terrified." "Good," the coldness returned to my chest. "Fear makes people sloppy. If he's at the foundry, he’s trying to move his remaining assets out of our reach." "We go tonight," Jacob said, tapping the blueprint. "Alvin is sidelined for field duty, but he’ll be running the tactical feed from the van. This time, no grand entrances. We slip in, isolate John, and finish the job before the city even realizes the Williams name has been erased from the ledger." I stood up, the air in the room dropping a few degrees as my focus locked onto the objective. Tonight, the Williams family wouldn't just face the Smiths—they would face the full, unbridled weight of the debt they owed me. "Prepare the men, Jacob," I said softly. "Let’s go hunting.”
