~Alessia Donato~
I stared at him, disgusted. Shame. Filling me up.
He didn’t look remorseful, he didn’t try to explain himself because he knew I was right.
“What does this mean?” Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared at the man I called my husband. He stared back at me without emotion; he didn’t care.
“Cassian” He looked at me for a while as if studying me before walking to the closet.
He acted like I was invisible, disregarding every emotion I was showing. After a while, he came back out dressed in his black suit, he looked like his regular self, there was no obvious sign of distress on his face, and he didn’t look concerned __especially after what I just found out.
I stared at him with so much hate and anger, was this why he suddenly made breakfast? Was he finally feeling guilty?
My head kept spinning, my eyes blurry from the tears falling down my eyes as I relented the blood of Valerio on my body, his lifeless pupils staring back at me emotionless__the joy I once knew, gone as the holes from the bullet brought blood.
I had countless nightmares, he didn’t deserve to die like that, no one deserved to die like that yet he married me, after doing that to my brother. He looked me in the eyes and made love to me knowing he was the last person to hear Valerio’s voice.
How could he?
What did I ever do to him to deserve this?
He wanted marriage in exchange for the debt, I didn’t ask for this__he did!
“Why?” I asked, unable to recognise my voice as I stared at the man I gave my body, time, and emotions to.
I didn’t love him but I had feelings for him, he was my husband...
“It wasn’t personal, it had to be done” He responded. I got pissed and yanked myself off the ground walking to grab him.
“What did he ever do to you? How could you Cassian” he stared at me as I grabbed his suit aggressively, punching and slapping him without flinching.
“I already told you it wasn’t serious”
“You’re a monster Cassian Donato and I hope you die a terrible death in hell” I yelled, mustering up my last strength to push him back. He staggered a little but was back to his normal composed form.
“I never claimed to be a princess bambino” His words pissed me off, to think I always felt tingling every time he called me his bambino but right now, all I felt was hatred.
He made his way to the door, twisting the handle to walk out of the room when I suddenly sprang up saying “I want a divorce”
He chuckled, turning to look at me as if confirming whether I was being serious or not. He stared for a while before walking away... slamming that door hard.
I broke down in tears, feeling like a hypocrite.
I was starting to fall for my brother’s killer, Valerio deserved better and I knew that.
My chest felt like it was swollen with air dragging all the oxygen out of my body, my head kept hurting, it felt like I was being stabbed a thousand times and I just couldn’t take it, I curled up into a ball on the ground weeping as memories of Valerio and me as kids came back to me.
He took care of me while our drunk dad gambled all our money away. I hated him so much for making Valerio take on so much responsibility.
He would steal food for us to eat and everytime he tried to make me comfortable disregarding himself, I had always told him that if I grew up I was going to take care of him the way he had been doing to me but that couldn’t happen all because father gambled money and lost to a mob, he couldn’t pay off as usual and left the responsibility for Valerio.
Valerio had to take care of it but he wasn’t able to complete it and the mob got tired of hearing his excuses, so they killed him.
They shot him ten times and the image of me going back home from school happy that I’d won the debate only to find my lifeless brother dead on the ground with bullet holes oozing blood from his body.
Cassian came as a savior who helped pay off the debt by marriage but it was all his plan, this was what he wanted.
He wanted me trapped in his cage so I wouldn’t be able to leave because he knew it wasn’t easy to get a divorce within the familia, it was either death or nothing.
Death or nothing!
I looked around for a razor and I remember the one I kept in the bathroom as I rushed to it. I grabbed it and unclipped the cover protecting the sharp object from hurting me as I slowly took it to my wrist.
If Cassian wasn’t going to give me a divorce and set me free from this sham of a marriage then I was going to take the balls into my hands.
I missed Valerio and no day passed that I didn’t think of his smile, blue shiny eyes that deserved to see the most joyous moments of earth, brown curly hair I always messed up, and a heart of gold that was meant to be shared with the world.
Valerio was my world, brother, father, mother, friend, and soulmate.
He was everything to me and thought of my husb.... Cassian killing him broke my heart to pieces.
‘I wouldn’t mind seeing his face one more time’ I thought as I pressed the blade deeper into my skin, feeling the tingly pain spread slowly. I was about to go all the way in when I heard my phone ring.
I opened my teary eyes as I searched for it, and I found it a few feet from me but I decided to ignore it.
I tried going back to where I was when I heard the phone ring again. I pushed the blade away as I walked to where it was, little droplets of blood dripped from the small cut of the blade on my skin as I picked the phone up to check the caller I saw that it was an Unknown Caller.
I thought of ignoring it again when the same number called again. I picked it up and I was shocked by what I heard. “Do you want to avenge your brother's death and make Cassian pay?”
Who was this?
