He is in the east corridor between second and third period when it happens. He tells me about it later, because he doesn’t tell me at the time — at the time I walk past him without knowing, headed to AP History with my bag over one shoulder and my mind three places at once, and I don’t notice the way he stops in the corridor and doesn’t move for long enough that two people have to go around him and one person asks if he’s okay and he says yes without turning around. He tells me in the library that afternoon, during the post-lunch study block, while everyone else is doing their own work at the extended table we’ve colonized over the past month.
