“Oh no,” Ali said while staring past me.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Don’t look behind you. The worst f*****g human being ever is here tonight?” I looked at her confused.
“Who?”
“This b***h, Erika. She’s blacklisted, at least in the sugar baby community.” Wait…there was a community?
“Whoa, what’d she do?”
“About a year ago she got dumped by her #1 sugar daddy, and any woman who even approached him she made a target. Contacted their parents and families and told them what their daughters were doing. Made fake accounts on the sugar dating websites pretending to be these girls, and would scam men for money so that the girls she pretended to be would get blacklisted. Men have their own community as well. Eventually, she was found out and reported to the dating apps, so they banned her. She was also banned from most of the sugar baby groups on social media. The damage was done though and a lot of girls struggle in the sugar space because of what she did. I’m surprised she was able to get in here. Multiple people reported her to the event coordinators.”
“Jesus sounds like a ton of drama. How old is this girl?”
“She’s twenty-three.” I frowned.
“Ew.”
“I can’t believe she’s here.” Suddenly, Ali ducked her head. “Oh my god, she’s coming over here!”
I turned my head as I saw a leggy, mean-looking girl approach. She wore a shiny pleather dress with a chain collar I swore at least a quarter of my clients had worn as lingerie. She styled it with a pair of fishnet stockings and shiny pleather thigh-high boots with skulls on the heels. She wore her blonde hair in a high ponytail, and her ponytail holder was covered in spikes. Her makeup consisted of dark purple lipstick, and a dark smokey eye, and her foundation was at least a shade too light for her skin. She was a pretty girl, but definitely scary looking.
“Hello, Alison.” the girl said smugly, using Ali’s real name.
“Hello, Erika!” Alison spoke loudly when she said her name.
“Shh, not so loud.” Erika hushed.
“I’m sorry, what was that, ERIKA?!” She said again.
“My apologies, Misty.” Erika pressed her lips together, frustrated at being bested into submission of using Ali’s pseudonym.
“I’d be more than happy to accept your apologies, Nadia… if you went home.”
“Oh, well, that won’t be happening as I was invited tonight.” Erika crossed her arms.
“How’d you get an invite? Did you offer the coordinator a blowjob?”
“I thought about it but I changed my mind considering he’s still healing from the toothy BJ you gave him.” Erika retorted, making a jab at Ali’s gapped teeth. Ali’s eye’s got really big. She stood up and walked past Erika. Erika looked back at Ali, walking away before taking her seat and looking at me.
“So, what’s your name?” I shook my head.
“I’m not sure I’m comfortable sharing that with you.” She let out a cocky laugh.
“Okay, so are you new to the sugar baby scene here in Dallas?”
“I’m new to Dallas. Not sure if I’m new to the scene. I’m not sure I want to join the scene. It wasn’t my idea to be here tonight,” I said.
“Well, sugar dating is all about getting what you want, some people just aren’t as driven as others to get what they want though.” I nodded to myself as this child talked down to me as though I weren’t already more successful through my own hard work than she could ever hope to be.
Suddenly, a man turned up behind Erika. He was tall, at least 6 ft 4 inches. He had dark black hair with just a few strands of grey, dark eyes, and the most handsome face, even RDJ couldn’t compete. He looked to be about his mid-forties, but his energy seemed older. My first thought was one of horror that he might be with this awful girl.
“Nadia, love, I seem to have had a change of heart.” Erika turned to the man.
“Holden…” She said, in a lovelorn voice. Holden. So that was his name. It was just as enticing as he was.
“I think it has been a long while since I quenched my thirst, and I’d like to explore your offer.” Erika grabbed his arms, my heart dropped realizing this beautiful man was stuck in the clutches of such a conceited skank. He handed her a room key and she ran past him. He watched her run off before he turned to me.
"May I get you a glass of wine?” He asked. I looked past him to where Erika had run off. Surely, this man didn’t think he could get in some time to flirt with me before having s*x with her, did he?
“She’s waiting for you,” I said, weakly.
“She is, and wherever she is waiting, she will stay...forever.” He didn't crack a smile but I couldn't help but laugh. So he wasn’t interested in her. At least that’s what he was saying. Whether or not it was true was a different story. For now, I would choose to believe him. He sat down.
“What’s your name?” He asked me in a quiet husky voice. I tried to remember the fake name Ali had chosen for me. “Your real name.” He said, seeming to read my mind, his eyes filled with curiosity.
“Charlotte,” I said. The way he kept eye contact with me made my heart skip a beat.
“That’s a beautiful classical name, Charlotte.” I shrugged, smiling sheepishly.
“It makes most people think of spiders.” I said, “You know, because of the book, Charlotte’s Web.” Somehow, that was the first thing that broke his stone face, and he smiled in a way that even the most frigid person would be hopelessly charmed by.
“I love spiders,” he said. For a second, his face became very serious, and he took my hand. “I hope to see you again, Charlotte.” I felt my fingers slip out of his cool strong grip as he stood up and walked away.
