KATE I smiled stiffly at my co-worker, Michael, who had cornered me during lunch at the café near my office. I glanced at my watch. I needed to hurry—I had to pick Aria from school and return to work. But Michael wasn’t picking up on any cues. His overly friendly demeanor, constant chatter, and subtle dinner invitation were starting to make me uncomfortable. He clearly had no concept of personal space.
