Chapter 2

“Getting away from you, monster.” I replied, glaring at him. A dirty slap landed across my cheek, turning my face to the other side as my cheek stung. But I wasn't done. “You should have been the one that died instead of Mother.”He yanked my hair backwards, his eyes dark and full of hatred. “I dare you to say that again! I should have killed you when I had the chance, but Michaela was adamant about keeping her damn pregnancy.” “Take her to the torture room,” he ordered, his voice cold and final. My heart slammed hard against me. “No, no, no, no…you can't do that. Papa!!” The torture room was a dead zone; it was for his illegal dealings. He never took me there. I wouldn't survive it. He knew. “P-please, Papa.” I immediately knelt, gripping his legs. “I promise to be a good girl henceforth, please, Papa.” I begged and begged, but he kicked me away still. “Take her, now!” He barked. The guards grabbed my arms roughly and led me to the dead zone. My body shook with terror when they opened the door. The stench of blood and bleach hit me hard. Knives in different sizes. Scissors in different sizes are all arranged on the wall. Cuffs, acid bottles, knee splitters, and thumbscrews were arranged on the tables with a chair at the center of the room. No, no, no. I need to do something quick. I turned to Nathan. “Please let me beg him again; maybe he will pardon me this time around.” “I don't know about that, princess,” Nathan replied with indifference while the other guards looked at me with pity. “Take off your coat.” I shook my head; my body trembled, but he shot me a satisfactory look, like he was pleased to be doing this to me. I slowly reached for the buttons when the door burst open. A guard entered and turned to Nathan. “Master Adam asked me to bring her. His visitor demanded her presence.” “Good gracious.” A deep relief I didn't even know I was holding onto escaped my lips. Whoever these visitors were, they just saved me from unexplainable torture. Although my mind was filled with curiosity. Father never introduced me to any of his friends. He hid me away like a plague. I followed the guard, tailing behind him. Immediately after I entered the office, the air shifted. It felt different from its usual smoky smell. It was thick, suffocating even. Two men dressed in a foreign uniform stood firmly behind a man who dressed in foreign attire. He sat in the corner of the room. He was unusually huge, taking up the entire space. He didn't need to speak. The aura that oozed from him made my knees weak, even enough that I bowed my head subconsciously. It felt familiar, yet I couldn't quite place it. His heavy gaze fell on me. “Is this your daughter, Alera?” “Y-Yes, Beta Uriah,” Father replied, rubbing his pants restlessly. “A virgin?” He asked further. “Yes, my Lord. She has known no man.” My cheeks tinted as I remembered the escapade I had with my dream predator. I looked up to find the man already watching me. I quickly averted my eyes, feeling exposed and small under his scrutinizing gaze. Why am I even here? After an eternity of awkward silence, Beta Uriah finally broke it and said, “Fine, I will take her.” My brows furrowed. Take whom? “Papa, what is he talking about?” I asked, looking between the man and my father, but all I got was silence. The men behind the man brought out a box and placed it on the table, opening it wide enough for me to catch a glimpse. Euros. Thousands of them. A low gasp escaped my mouth, and my eyes widened but then slowly burned with rage as it dawned on me. I shook my head, throwing the thoughts away. He wouldn't dare. He may be the worst father ever, but he wouldn't trade me like some piece of an item. And then in that moment, Beta Uriah dropped the bomb I wish I hadn't heard. “Alera, your father has just traded you to me, and as of this moment, you have become my slave.” A glint of pity flashed through his eyes but was quickly replaced with the stoic expression he always wore. I turned to the pathetic bastard I call a father, fist clenched, eyes burning daggers into his head. "No, Papa, you wouldn't dare!” My chest tightened, and tears welled up in my eyes. "Disappointment" was an understatement of how I felt. “Will you shut it and follow your new master!” He spat. Beta Uriah's voice immediately cut through the tension, sharp and cold. “You no longer have the authority to address her that way.” A bitter laugh escaped my throat. He was the devil indeed. I had thought maybe, just maybe, there was still an ounce of humanity left in him. “You know what? Fine, I would go with him.” I wiped my tears and looked at him with distaste. “I would rather not be with your sorry excuse of a father anyway.” Rage burned through my father's eyes. He raised his hands to hit me, but the guards blocked them before they landed on me. “What. Did. I. Say. About. Addressing her?” Uriah growled, standing up from the chair. His eyes glowed yellow with a surge of electricity behind them. The ground started shaking terrifyingly. But only for a minute and suddenly went still. My mouth hung open, and my eyes widened. I stared blankly, lost in awe with what I had just witnessed. Something about it felt familiar. Those eyes. The surge of power that came from them. I wasn't scared like my father or the guard that stood beside him. I felt… I couldn't place it yet. After Beta Uriah finalized my ownership, we began our journey to his 'kingdom,' as he called it. I dread the fate that awaited me, wondering if it could be worse or better than the hell I just left. We got to a stop, and Uriah placed his hands on a particular tree and mumbled some words. Immediately, the surrounding air changed. The trees vanished, and a gigantic gate stood before us. “Welcome to the Werewolf Kingdom, Alera. And close your mouth.”
