Alera POV
“We need her awake before Beta Uriah gets here. He will behead us if we can’t give an explanation to what happened,” a voice beside me said.
“Patience, Kamora. The treatment cannot be rushed.” A familiar voice replied.
Their bickering entered directly into my ears, worsening the headache I had. I winced and slowly opened my eyes.
“She’s awake.”
Immediately two pairs of eyes rested on me with confusion plastered on them. Sarah and a younger woman.
“W-water,” I muttered as my throat burned.
The younger one grabbed a cup on the table and placed it at the top of my mouth. The fatigue cooled off a little, but my p***y was still very sore.
“She doesn't smell like them though,” the younger one mumbled.
“And you would know because?” Sarah snorted before turning her attention back to me.
Her eyes held warmth that wasn’t there before, mixed with something I could place. Like dread?
She began, “Can you explain what exactly happened back there?”
My brows squeezed a little. “Urm… I woke up feeling extremely hot and sweaty. My body ached with so much pain and…” I glanced between the women. Should I tell them?
“You can trust me.” Sarah said.
A small smile reached my lips. I continued, “Desire swept through my legs. I just needed a release. Then he came inside my room and he…” The words died on my lips.
“Then the feral mated with you.” She finished.
"Yes," I replied and mumbled to myself, “if you put it that way, though.”
Footsteps echoed from the hallway outside the room we were in. My brows squeezed together.
“Oh, goddess, he’s here.”
Almost immediately, the door flung open. Beta Uriah stood by the door, with two guards by his side.
The woman quickly stood up and bowed her head. “My lord,” they chorused, hands fidgeting at the back. I could smell the fear in their voices.
But why?
All this was confusing. What just happened to me?
Why were they scared of Uriah finding out? Shouldn’t they be grateful I’m still alive?
All answers led me back to the man standing at the doorway. The one who held the authority here. His piercing gaze fell on mine with an unreadable expression.
Without breaking out of eye contact, he said, “Leave us.”
The women scurried out of the room like they had just nearly escaped death. The guards with him also left us.
He walked inside, taking up space as usual, and stopped by my bedside and took a seat, and for the first time, his eyes showed a wave of emotion.
“For years, he ignored me, refused to get better, refused to eat anything other than raw meat, and refused to mate with his mistress, but you step into our territory, and the next minute he’s tearing chains just to mate with you!? He snapped, his voice lacing with venom.
He shook his head and suddenly stood up. “I have my questions.” He said and looked down at me with distaste, “But you certainly don’t have them. You can’t.” He said and walked out.
What was that about?
I ignored him and started at the ceilings, ignoring the questions that flooded my mind." Alera."
My head turned towards the door. Who called me just now?

Council Hall.
Uriah POV.
“I say we do nothing!”
An elder stood up. “Beta Uriah, we can’t just sit back and do nothing. Our Alpha having an interest in mating for the first time in decades, even in his feral form, is something worth checking.”
Another fired back, “How can you speak like that? A frail human? Becoming our alpha's interest? What has become of us these days.”
“What if—“
“What if, what?”
I raised my hands to stop their bickering. “Enough, you too!”
None of us had the audacity to say what it truly was, because speaking of it goes against everything we represent.
Just then a tall-framed figure waltzes into the hall, with pride and shoulders high as usual. “Or what if he is remated to her?” He said it with that uncouth tongue of his.
“Basky,” his name tasted like poison on my lips. Because it was.
“Uriah. It's a pleasure to see you after a long house arrest. Much needed.” He parted his robe with a sly smug on his lips.
There had been so many reports of him sleeping with maids in the pack forcefully. I didn’t care much because they were humans, and then he started mounting unmated she-wolves. If he weren't a regal, I know what I would have done. Such a menace.
He walked closer and pointed his fingers at me. “Try that with me again, and not only the unmated will be fucked.” He snarled.
He turned back to the elders, who avoided his gaze. He smiled, “Elders… What a pleasure. Can’t believe you all started without me.”
He began, “My cousin, King Zakiel, may his soul rest in pea—“
“Watch your tongue!” A growl tore from my lips before I could stop myself. “You are playing with treason.”
“Apologies, angry wolf,” he teased and suddenly turned serious.
He pointed to the golden chair at the extreme front of the hall. “That throne has been empty for decades. Our people are becoming difficult to control, they have no regard for the throne. They laugh at us, but we all sit back and watch while Uriah “finds us a solution”.
He continued, his lips curved slightly with a mischievous smile I couldn’t miss. “As much as it pains me, we have to count our losses and move on.”
My lips curved upwards. “Tsk. Do you covet the throne, Basky?”
Loud murmurs filled the air immediately. The tension was clear as day. Some elders shifted uncomfortably among themselves. The other looked at him questionably.
He laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Ha ha ha, you joke too much. I dare not.” He said, voice laced with a mockery I didn't miss. “I am just saying, it’s been ages, and we need to move forward as a Kingdom.”
“Which is what I am doing…leading the people while we wait.” I retorted back.
He laughed, “Uriah, come off your high horse. You are just a beta after all; if anyone should lead, it should be me.” He said, dusting off his robe.
My smile widened. “You can only become king if Zakiel is dead. But is he?”
“But is he not?” He snapped back.
Grrrr, grrrrrrr. My eyes turned golden, claws out. My hands itched for his blood.
Then I remembered Zakiel’s final words. “Take care of my people and my cousin, Basky. He is all that is left of my lineage."
I closed my eyes, forcing it back in. I let out a deep breath. “So Basky, what do you suggest?” I asked, anticipating the rubbish he was about to spout out.
“Took you long enough,” he smiled and continued.
“I say we bring the girl out. Breed her, right here in front of all of us on the upcoming festive night, as you did to all your slaves.”
