(Alpha Quame' Michaelson's POV)
I woke up confused about my surroundings. I looked over and saw Renee sleeping peacefully next to me and noted the clock read 2:45 am. I must have fallen asleep after I screwed her brains out. I NEVER stay the night! I slowly crept out of her bed, threw my clothes on, and rushed out of her room. I did my walk of shame up two flights of stairs and walked into my bedroom, in Alpha's quarters. I collapsed on my bed in frustration.
At 21, meaningless s*x is starting to not do it for me like it did when I was a teen. Hey, I'm an Alpha with a high s*x drive, but for some reason, s*x with random she-wolves doesn't excite me like it used to. I admit I am a bit of a player, but that is only because I do not need a mate, but I still have needs. I'm not particularly eager to sleep with too many she-wolves in my pack because that starts unnecessary drama: I learned that the hard way.
In my pack, I currently have two lovers (who hate each other). There is Renee, a Delta warrior, who is as fierce as she is sexy with her tanned skin, long red hair, and green eyes. She is a vision of beauty, but I don't love her. I'm not too fond of her most of the time either. She's tough as nails, but I don't feel anything for her beyond s****l attraction. I know Renee thinks if she warms my bed, I will one day make her Luna, but that will never happen. T
hen there is Erin, with fair skin, blue eyes, and shoulder-length brown hair. I will not lie; I have a soft spot for Erin, mainly because of her kind and sweet personality. Erin is an Omega, and I know she knows she has no chance at being Luna, but she still enjoys the perks of being the Alpha's mistress. Unfortunately, my wolf Jax has grown tired of sleeping with both of them.
Jax, sadly, is a hopeless romantic. Where I stand firm on the fact that having a Luna is a weakness I will never indulge in, Jax is desperately waiting for his mate to complete him. Poor wolf is becoming desperate to find her, and I am becoming desperate not to. Yeah, sure, a Luna would do me good to satisfy my s****l needs, but I do not need some clingy, needy she-wolf by my side to make me strong!
After my mother died when I was 14 from a random rogue attack, my father lost it. He became depressed and let the pack go by the wayside for a good three years before he died of a broken heart, and I had no choice but to take over the pack at 17. The strongest, bravest man I knew turned into a weak, crying mess because of a mate. I refuse to have the same fate, and the moment my dad died, I vowed never to take a Luna. Not even a chosen one!
I finally went back to sleep and woke up a few hours later to my alarm. It was 5:30 am, and it was time to get up for 6 am training. After getting ready, I headed out toward our training field. My Gamma, Lonnie, was already on the field getting our warriors warmed up. "Alpha," he greeted me with a respectful nod of his head. "Gamma," I responded.
Just then, I saw Renee making her way over to the field. She walked straight over to me and planted a sloppy kiss on my cheek. "Please get this she-wolf away from me before I vomit," said Jax, my wolf. "Stop it, Jax, you know Renee is just good fun, nothing to work yourself up about," I responded. "Keep it up, and I will make sure your d**k won't get up for her anymore. We need to find our mate immediately!" Jax whined in my head. I just sighed in frustration; here he goes with that mate stuff again.
Renee looked me in my eyes seductively while she bit her bottom lip and said, "Alpha, I was looking for you this morning. I woke up alone. Maybe we can get a quickie in after breakfast," she purred seductively. "Renee, you know I don't stay over. Since the beginning, that's been one of the main rules for this "arrangement," I responded to Renee. She frowned and stated, "Okay, I am still down for a quickie later if you're game." before I could respond, Lonnie called everyone to hit 20 laps around the field. Thank goddess.
As I started my run, I hoped Renee would take a hint and leave, but instead she started running alongside me. That was until my best friend and Beta, Legend, ran up beside me, saying he had some critical pack business to discuss. Taking the hint, Renee ran ahead to her group of friends.
"So what do you need to discuss? You know I don't like discussing pack matters before breakfast." I stated, eyeing Legend curiously. "I was just trying to get rid of Renee's psycho ass. She can never take a hint, and I know how you feel about these she-wolves outside the bedroom," he responded. I smirked at his cunningness and said, "See, this is why I pay you the big bucks!" "Is it really? So it has nothing to do with the fact that my dad was your dad's Beta, and I inherited the position?" he questioned. I rolled my eyes and laughed. "Oh, don't get so technical with me! Either way, you do your job well, and that's all that matters!" I responded. "He laughed and said, "well, maybe my job wouldn't be so hard if you gave us a Luna to help look after the pack!" He knew my response, so I didn't even answer his stupidity.
After training, I washed up and made my way to the dining hall for breakfast. After greeting everyone in the dining area, I made my way over to the buffet-style food and began to make my plate. "Mmm, Alpha, if you had me as your Luna, you wouldn't need to make your plate. I would just make some Omega do it, and you could relax." I heard Renee say from behind me.
I turned around and stated, "Renee, you know I will never take a Luna." "But if you did, it would be me, right?" Renee questioned. "Sure," I answered, starting to get annoyed. "You know what? I am just going to have breakfast in my office this morning. Excuse me, Renee." I said while I made my way out of the dining hall.
I had been in my office all morning working through minor issues in my pack. Having the largest, strongest, wealthiest, and most feared pack in the country takes a lot of hard work and time. My pack has just over 1,250 members, with well over half of those being mighty warriors. We are a force to be reckoned with. Becoming an Alpha so young, it was either sink or swim. I had no choice but to make a name for myself, especially since I inherited the pack from my dad in such poor condition.
I admit I have done some things I am not too proud of to get my pack where it is today, but I have no regrets. I have made many enemies over the years, which is another reason I can't take a Luna or settle with a mate. Having some defenseless she-wolf to look after with all the dangers in the world is not a task I am willing to take on. My pack comes first. Besides, all Luna's are good for is making pups, party planning, and flower decorations.
"Alpha, I just received a call from the Elder's Council!" yelled Legend as he barged into my office. "Well, what seems to be the problem?" I questioned seriously. Legend and I have grown up together since we were pups. He's one of my oldest and most trustworthy friends who knows me well. So when he calls me Alpha, especially in private, I know it must be serious. "Eight of the twenty-two packs on this side of the country have been attacked. Alphas and Lunas are being murdered in the middle of the night in front of their packs; It's chaos out there!" Legend explained.
"What?! Who the hell is capable of something like that?" I questioned in disgust. "I'm not sure, Alpha. That is all the information the Council has given me for now. They also said they would be here first thing in the morning for a mandatory meeting and to make the proper arrangements."
What Legend just said was a lot of information to process. So I just got up, went over to the cabinet on the far side of my office, and grabbed a bottle of whisky. After pouring us both a glass, I handed Legend one and sat back down. "So, what are we going to do?" Legend questioned.
I thought for a moment, then answered, "We wait to hear what the Council has to say. If this is a direct threat to our pack, I cannot just sit back and do nothing. I also can't sit back and let innocent Alphas and Lunas get murdered. I hate to say it, but if it comes down to it, I might have to send our little army to the front lines for the greater good."
"Ahh, that's my Alpha! I will let Fran know to prepare for the Council's visit tomorrow," exclaimed my Beta, as he sat his empty glass down and walked out of my office. "Who dare do such a thing? Who is this bastard, and why are we just hearing about this now?!" Jax growled as he paced in my mind. "I don't know, buddy, but we will find out," I assured him. I sighed while in deep thought. Tomorrow can't come quickly enough.
