I took a shower and shaved. Put some gel in my hair to make the unruly waves stay down. As I went into my closet I thought about Zephra and the clothes I had ordered for her. Trisha had come down and told me that she had cried when she found out all of them were for her. This poor girl had never had anyone buy her clothes. I wanted to take her shopping and let her pick out whatever she wanted. I was afraid that might be too much too soon though. She was just so perfect. Her long brown hair and those yellow and green eyes set into that heart-shaped face. She always seemed to have a little bit of a scared rabbit look when I saw her though.
I could also see the strength in those eyes . The way she caught on to things quickly and questioned things. I had only known her for a few hours but I could feel my heart hurting because of what she had already been through. I wanted to make her life better. So much stood in the way though. There were so many things I needed to tell her. So many things I didn't know how she would take. Would she hate me? Would she be afraid of me? Would she run from me? The fear of all of these things was agonizing.
"The best thing is just to rip the bandaid off quickly." Artus was very matter of fact about this.
"I can't just blurt it out. That could freak her out and then she wouldn't listen to anything else." Pulling on a black button-up shirt and picking out my pants that would look the best. I wanted to look extra nice for her.
"You can't just dance around it. She has someone out there looking to hurt her. We have to keep her safe. How can we do that if she doesn't even know who or what she is?"Artus was getting more frustrated by the minute. I could feel him pacing in my head.
"We will keep her safe here. No one is going to get to her here." I put on my silver belt and looked in the mirror. I looked like Johnny Cash all clad in black. Maybe a dark blue shirt would be better. My mother always said that color brought out my eyes.
I stripped off the black shirt and put on a dark blue one instead with a black belt. Looking at myself, this did look better. I put on my black shoes and made sure they were shined. OK, I can't wait any longer. I needed to see her.
Grabbing the flowers off the bed I walked to the door. There was an omega coming out of Jessica's room from down the hall. As I walked over to her I could smell Zephra's scent but then there was another one. One I knew all too well.
"Marcy, can you do me a big favor?" I walked over to the omega, handing her the flowers.
"Can you put these in a vase and set them on my table for dinner?" She smiled at me, nodding her head.
"Of course, Alpha. Anything else?" she asked with a courteous smile. She was one of the omegas that were in charge of the Alpha floor and was very good at her job. She was a very trusted omega and had earned everyone's admiration for the job she did.
"Yes, there is one more thing. Have you seen Tiana up here?" she lost her smile and nodded her head.
"Yes Alpha. I went to put towels in Ms. Jessica's room and she came up in the elevator with me. She said she was going to see Ms. Jessica but she was not in her room. She said she was going to go wait for her downstairs." She finished looking down at the floor.
"You're not in any trouble, Marcy. I just thought I smelled her perfume. Thank you for the information" Tiana should not be on the alpha floor. She had no business here. I knew she wasn't there to see Jessica as Jessica stopped being her friend when the rumors had started. So what did she think she was doing up here? I would have to punish her for this one. Maybe then she would get the hint.
"You're welcome, Alpha. I will get these put on your table immediately." She walked to the elevator and pushed the button for the main floor. I walked with her and went down the elevator with her. I was still confused about Tiana, but I was excited about seeing Zephra. I could already smell her scent. They must already be in the dining room.
As I stepped through the door, what I saw took me from happiness to fury in seconds. There was Tiana standing over a sitting Zephra. Yelling at her and screaming about something. She was calling her names and her hand came back in a motion to slap her. I had to hold Artus back as all he wanted to do was rip Tiana's head off. I took four long strides and caught Tiana's hand just as it was starting its swing. I spun her around and had my hand around her throat before she knew what was happening.
"What do you think you are doing?" My Alpha aura was in full force as each word came out with a low growl.. Her face was starting to turn purple. She was grabbing at my hand that was cutting off her oxygen. She tried to speak but she couldn't.
Riley came over and grabbed my shoulder. He was trying to get my attention but I would not take my eyes off of Tiana.
"Let her go or you are going to kill her." He put his face in front of me. I let go of my grip and she fell to the floor coughing and choking. Tears were running down her face. Artus was growling in my head. I took a deep breath and looked at Zephra. Her eyes were closed tight and she was bracing for the hit that never came. She seemed all too used to this type of thing. When she opened her eyes she just looked at me with a surprised look on her face.
