It has been a long month. So much to get done and so many decisions. Being the Alpha of a pack as large as mine was a never-ending battle of things to do.When I get a few moments I like to come to my favorite spot just to get away for a while. Up on this hillside I could see the whole village. All of the subtle nuances that would change as the sun went down. The shading of the cottages against the dark rich forest was amazing. They gave off the feeling of simplicity that my life no longer had.
After the rouge attack that killed my mother and father, the previous Alpha and Luna, I was next in line to take over. Being the oldest of three meant I had to not only take on the pack but the raising of my siblings. My brother Grayson was two years younger than me and my sister Jessica was the baby. Only being nineteen when I took over, there was a great deal of pressure. We had to rebuild from the attack as well as get prepared for better protection against more attacks. Thankfully, I had my two best friends, who became my Beta and Gamma. We grew up together and are very close, more like brothers than friends.
Riley became my Beta as he has a good strong head on his shoulders and can think quickly under pressure. He has been able to help me think three steps ahead of what I need to do. He is the son of the previous Beta. His father, Timothy, was badly wounded in the attack as he fought next to my father. It is the Betas job to protect the Alpha and the pack. Timothy fought off many rouges until he was pinned and lost his leg.
Steven is my Gamma. He is the younger brother to Riley, but only a one-year difference in age. He is one of the best warriors in the pack. He trains all of our warriors and takes it very seriously. He has great styles of fighting that he is always trying to improve on. He does not believe that any one style is enough. He has brought great ideas back for patrols around the perimeter from his many conferences and training he goes to.
The members of the pack were very unsure of me becoming the Alpha at such a young age, since I hadn't really shown any true interest in becoming the Alpha. I had been somewhat of a playboy. Lots of drinking and night life. Many girlfriends but never got serious as I was waiting for my Luna. I truly believe in the mate bond given to us by the Goddess and believe that my Luna will help to keep this pack growing and prospering as they deserve. I also want what my parents had. They truly loved each other.
Once I took on the position, I changed my outlook on things and have become the Alpha they deserve. I will probably never meet up with my father as Alpha. He was amazing at handling the pack, his children, business and loving his Luna. The pack seems to have taken me as their Alpha now, as it has been three years. They know I want to do the best I can for them.
I watch as the moon starts to rise and see movement toward the border of the packlands. It looks like someone is running and there are many wolves chasing them.
Alexander, there are rogues that just passed into our land. They are chasing a girl. The voice of Steven came into my head.
I quickly shifted into my wolf Artus and headed to the motion I saw.
Bring the patrol quickly to the east side. I can see them. I mind linked him back.
What would rogues be doing chasing a girl? Were they trying to capture her? Were they trying to hurt her?
As I get closer, I smell violets and caramel. It is strange to smell these things out here. The only violets in this area are in the garden at the back of the packhouse. I keep running towards them as I notice the patrol has caught up and we are about to run into them.
The girl is running fast. She looks like a human. I don't feel any other supernatural being vibe coming from her. Although I am kinda smelling a strange wolf. That could just be the rogues, but it didn't have the smell of the normal rogue..
She looks straight at me and stops in her tracks. It was not a normal sight to have a wolf out here in t woods. The rogue closest to her tackled her from behind and went to bite her throat. I jumped at him and knocked him to the ground. My teeth are in his throat and with one shake his is done. The patrol is fighting the other rogues. There are only about five of them, so it is easy for my warriors to take them down.
I look to see if there are any more coming out of the forest but this seems to be all. As I shift back to human form and go to the girl. She is lying on her side with blood coming out of a gash on her head. She is unconscious but still breathing. She has scratches and marks on her from the rouge, but it doesn't look too serious.
Steven walks up and hands me basketball shorts. We keep extra clothes in different trees around the area, so if we have to change quickly we are not walking around naked. I put them on and knelt down by the girl. The gash doesn't look too serious but she does need a few stitches.
"Take her to the clinic and be sure to tell the staff not to change around her." I told Steven as I started to walk back to the packhouse. There is a feeling like I shouldn't leave her. Artus was very unsettled about leaving her. I know she will be safe at the clinic and none of my warriors will hurt her, but something feels off.
"Never mind, I will take her." I told Steven as I scooped her up and took her in my arms, heading to the clinic. As soon as I picked her up, Artus settled down.
Steven looked at me with a questioning look on his face. I don't know what to say, but for some reason, I needed to take care of her. As I look down at her, I notice she has such perfect skin. Her long brown hair is hanging off my arm as I cradle her head next to me. Her nose was a perfect little button in the middle of her face. Her lips were light pink and so soft looking. I had the urge to kiss them.
What is wrong with me? Here I was walking a human into my pack and thinking about kissing her. Here was another problem that was just added to my list of things to take care of. Either I am crazy or cursed to keep adding things to my plate. We were going to have to be so careful when she wakes up not to let her see us in wolf form. Humans were not as understanding of our existence.
I knew Steven would take care of the rogues' bodies and get things cleaned up. He was very good at what he did. He would take a patrol and make sure no other rogues got onto our land.
Why were they chasing this girl? Their intent had surely been to kill her as they had tried to go for her throat. But why? What did this girl do to them? We would have to wait to see if she knew anything.
