Brooklyn Sitting at the café table, I watched him stand, stretching slightly before heading back in my direction. For as long as I’ve known him, I’d never seen him smile like that. There was something almost triumphant in it, like he couldn’t believe things had gone his way. I felt a flicker of happiness for him, despite everything. When he sat down, I smiled.
