Chapter ten

671 Words
Rayna's POV It took her just two days. Rayna had sorted every single file the MD dumped on her — organized, corrected and arranged neatly — in two days. She had arrived early this morning specifically to put the finishing touches together before submitting them. The past few days at work hadn't been terrible honestly. She was slowly being put through her actual job requirements and most of her colleagues were friendly enough. The only disruption was the MD himself — appearing at her office door unexpectedly, asking if she was done yet like she was a student on a deadline. She had wondered each time why he hadn't given the files to someone more senior if they were so urgent. But she said nothing. She was almost certain it was just his way of trying to get under her skin. It wasn't working. She had left her office door slightly open this morning — just so she could see when he arrived. Not for any particular reason. Just so she would know when it was a good time to go and submit. That was all. It was past nine already. She had seen several staff members go in and out of his office but hadn't caught the moment he arrived himself. He must have come in while she was distracted. She picked up the neatly arranged files and stood up. She was going to submit them today and she genuinely could not wait to see his face when he realized she had finished everything already. It was almost the weekend. She deserved this small victory. Rayna approached his door and knocked. No answer. She could hear voices inside — muffled but definitely there. She knocked again. Still nothing. She pushed the door open slightly and stopped. Trojan was at his desk. And there was a woman beside him — close. Very close. Rayna couldn't quite tell if they were kissing or just inches apart but the way his hand rested on her waist told her enough. She couldn't see the woman's face — only the back of her. But everything about her screamed expensive. Her hair, her posture, the way she held herself. She wore a fitted red gown with a deep opening at the back, revealing smooth flawless skin. "Wow," Rayna said quietly to herself. "Of course. Yoruba demon." She scoffed internally. "Should have known." She stood there for almost two full minutes. Neither of them noticed her. She told herself to leave. She didn't. Instead she cleared her throat. Trojan pulled back immediately, gently pushing the woman aside. His eyes landed on Rayna and something flickered across his face — surprise, something else she couldn't name. She looked at his lips briefly. Pink. Not her business, she reminded herself firmly. "I'm here to submit the files," she said, stepping forward and stretching them toward him. The woman turned around fully for the first time. Her gown dipped low at the front too and she looked Rayna up and down slowly. "Are you blind?" she said, her voice was sharp and polished. "We were in the middle of something." "I couldn't wait," Rayna replied simply. "Baby boo," the woman said, turning to Trojan with a pout, "your staff are so useless." Trojan was still composing himself, avoiding Rayna's eyes entirely. "You should have waited," he said finally. "Or come back later." "Well," Rayna said, files still extended toward him, "I'm here already." He took them without another word and told her he'd review them later. "You can leave now." "Never said I was staying," Rayna said, already turning toward the door. "Enjoy." "She's so arrogant," the woman said behind her. "Enough," Trojan said quietly. Rayna closed the door behind her and stood in the corridor for a moment. So much for being caught in the act, she thought. She shook her head and walked back to her office. It wasn't her business. As long as it didn't affect her work she was perfectly fine. She was fine. Completely fine.
