Chapter four

587 Words
Rayna's POV The moment Rayna got home from the supermarket, the only thing on her mind was calling her two besties. She needed to tell them about her encounter at Prince Ebeano — she could already picture Ifeoluwa's reaction in her head and honestly she needed the laugh. She dropped the shopping bags on the dining table and was about to head upstairs when a familiar voice stopped her. "Hey Princess." She turned around. Her father was walking toward her from the corridor, still in his work clothes. She hadn't even realized he was home — he was back earlier than usual. She smiled immediately. No matter how terrible her day had been, her father always had that effect on her. He never let the stress of his job show, never brought the weight of the world home with him. She loved him for that. "Hi Dad," she replied warmly. They exchanged pleasantries and chatted briefly before Rayna excused herself upstairs. She needed to make her calls before her mother appeared from somewhere and started asking questions she wasn't ready to answer. She had something more important to do. The phone screen lit up as Rayna waited for her friends to join the group video call. Ife joined first. She was always first for anything involving gossip. "Hey b***h," Ife grinned, adjusting herself in front of her camera. "You're crazy," Rayna laughed. "So what's the gist? And where is Josh?" Ife added, already impatient. As if on cue, Josh's face appeared on the screen. "Finally," Ife muttered. Now they were complete. They spent a few minutes catching up — Josh telling them about a nosy colleague at his Abuja internship who derived joy from poking his nose into everyone's business. Ife, naturally, had a full rundown of every rich guy and sugar daddy she had encountered at the Port Harcourt party. "He said he was going to buy me the latest iPhone 17 and take me to the Maldives," Ife laughed, clearly unbothered. "Ife," Josh said flatly. "What??" "You initiated this call Rayna," Ife continued, doing her signature weird puppy eyes directly into the camera. "So obviously you have something for us. Spill." "Can you quit being weird," Josh told her. Rayna laughed. She loved her friends but they never stopped picking on each other. "Okay enough about you two," Rayna said, lowering her voice slightly. "I have something to tell you." "Can you just say everything at once?" Ife said impatiently. "There was this guy at the supermarket today," Rayna began. "Stupid, annoyingly handsome, obviously rich — and he bumped into me and acted like it was entirely my fault." "Me that is already going through so much," she sighed. She told them everything — every detail, every comeback, every eye roll. Josh couldn't stop laughing. He knew Rayna was calm by nature but she did not take nonsense from anybody. "Did he ask for your number?" Ife asked, leaning forward. "Or did you take his?" "That's the only thing that interested you," Rayna said shaking her head. "Listen," Ife said, half laughing half serious. "In a real fairy tale he would have apologized, asked for your number and the rest would be history." "You are not serious," Josh said. "I'm very serious!!" Ife insisted. Rayna smiled and shook her head. She didn't know why but the image of his face — that cold, unbothered expression — flashed through her mind briefly before she pushed it away. She was never going to see him again anyway.
