CHAPTER TWELVEGisela’s mind fought its way slowly and painfully back to consciousness. She had a feeling of overwhelming disaster, of fear, of a desire to escape. Then she was aware of the rumble of wheels, of something warm and soft over her legs, of something else soft yet sustaining behind her shoulders. She opened her eyes.
