Elvis walked into the office building, everyone greeted him with a slight bend of head but as expected, he didn’t respond to any one of them
“David, in my office, now” Elvis said as he passed the cubicles on the second floor and made his way to the elevator
“Yes ye..ess sir” David stuttered as he packed up the files he was working, picked up his tablet and ran out of his office cubicle, he was definitely caught off guard but he couldn’t let Elvis know that.
“You called me, Mr Elvis” David said the moment he stepped into the CEO’s office, where Elvis had his back turned to the door, taking off his jacket and placing it on his seat.
David waited patiently, reading some work stuff on his tablet while his boss got comfortable.
Elvis sat down and asked “Where’s the new secretary”
David’s eyes widened at that followed by a faint smile, he thought they had agreed on space of two days but knowing the person he works for, he asked the applicants to come in for an interview this morning.
“There are two best fit for the position, sir….” David started
“I thought you would be the one to make a choice then” he finished off
“Of what importance are you then, David?” He asked, looking at him sternly
“I’ll make a choice immediately, sir” David responded
Elvis looked at him and gestures towards the door, signaling that he could leave now, David bowed his head slightly and left the office.
He immediately called for the two ladies he thought were good fits for a new secretary. After conducting another interview for them, he picked one, who seemed confident in her abilities, Leila.
Leila Hassan, a beautiful young lady, brown skinned with curly hair and grey eyes. She looked beautiful but above that, she looked smart and gave off an aura that couldn’t be missed.
He dismissed the other one and asked politely Leila to come with him to tell her the specifics of the job description before he introduces her to Mr Elvis. She walked behind him to the elevator which led to the second floor. David told her everything he thought she needed to know about working with his boss, paying attention to detail as she would be working closely with him. She nodded her head slightly as he spoke as if taking mental notes.
“Okay, that will be all for now, any questions?” David asked in one breath
She was silent for a bit, looking into nothing and then she spoke
“One question”
“And that would be?” David asked, tapping away on his tablet
“When do I resume?” She asked
“Immediately” he said in the same second, still not looking up
When she was silent again, he looked up and asked
“Is that okay by you?”
“Do I get to make a choice?” She asked
“It is fine by me” she finished off before he answered
He nodded in agreement
“That would be all with me, shall we go to see Mr Elvis now?” He asked gesturing for her to move first
‘Apparently, that wasn’t a question’ she thought out loud while she walked straight into the hallway
The elevator ride to the top floor was silent as David was basically working on the go. The elevator chimed and the doors opened, she walked out first and waited for David to get outside to start the ‘tour’. He showed her everything from the espresso machine to her station right before Mr Elvis’ office
“This is Mr Elvis’ office, shall we go in?” He asked her
“By all means” she responded confidently
David knocked on the door which was slightly ajar before opening it a bit more to let them in
Elvis looked up from the documents he was handling to see who came in with David, he was met with beautiful grey eyes staring right at him
“Yes?” He asked raising a brow at David who brought her in and stayed silent
“Oh, my bad, she is the new secretary, sir” David said as he gestured to her to introduce herself
“Hello Mr Elvis, I’m Leila Hassan, your new secretary” she said in the most confident tone she could muster
Elvis looked at her for a minute without saying anything as if trying to read her mind, then he nodded his head ever so slightly
“I’m sure you’ve been told the specifics of your job, give it your best” He started
“That would be all, I’ll call you if I need you” he finished and buried his head back in the documents he was working on before they came in
David led her out and told her few more things before leaving her to his workspace
Leila accessed the place once more, she thought it was a really beautiful space, definitely better than she expected, and she expected a lot considering this was the Grant Group. She was happy to be here but it still felt unreal to her, she was working so closely with the country’s most elite young CEO. She knew she had to give it her best. She said a little prayer in her mind as she walked to her seat.
“Where do we begin?” She said out loud to herself as she tried powering the desktop and gathering the papers on the table, trying to sort them out.
After what felt like forever, she was finally done sorting out the papers and getting familiar with most things she’d use in the long run. She let out a long breath of relief as she sighted Mr Elvis coming out of his office, closing the door behind him. She checked the time on her wristwatch and it was really late but in her defense, she did not know the time she was to clock out and she was still getting some work done.
“You’re still here?” Mr Elvis asked, shocked to see her desktop still lit
“I was just wrapping up, sir” She said as she packed up her things and shut down the desktop
“Ask my assistant about your time of work, clocking in and out” He said on his way to the elevator
“I’ll do just that sir” She said as she stood up too but she waited for him to use the leave first before she used the other one to get to the ground floor and off she went.
