Chapter 6

"He’s just back and he’s already hooking up with two blondes. Typical Caspian." I noticed what Sofia said was true. He was leaning back, arms draped over the couch, looking perfectly bored despite the two stunning girls hovering over him. One was tracing the line of his jaw with a manicured finger, and the other was whispering something into his ear, her lips practically grazing his skin. But he wasn't paying attention to them. Instead He held out his drink, he didn't sip it, those eyes of his were locked onto mine. He tipped his chin up. A single sharp jerk. That motioned 'Come here' 'Well... playboy' I thought, we are already heading your way. "Sof, your cousin looks like a serial playboy," Freya muttered, her voice tight with caution as she leaned into my ear. "Seriously Jasmine, he’s exactly the kind of person we should be running away from. Let’s just go." I wanted to agree. Every logical part of my brain was screaming that a guy like that was a one-way ticket to more heartbreak. But my feet wouldn't move backward. My entire body felt like it had been tuned to a frequency only he was broadcasting. For the first time in a week, Nala, my wolf who had been a silent grieving weight since Malakai’s rejection actually stirred, I could feel her curiosity though faintly. Playboy or not, I was a rejected mate. What was the point of keeping myself for a destiny that had already discarded me? If Malakai could throw me away, maybe I could be a playgirl too. Maybe I could just enjoy being Jasmine for once. Freya and I kept following Sofia as the crowd naturally parted for her. It was strange; as soon as people saw where we were heading, the sea of bodies just cleared a path. There was a gravity to him that pushed everyone else to the edges. The blonde girl whispering to him finally noticed us. Her eyes narrowed the moment she realized Caspian hadn't looked at her once since I’d stepped into his line of sight. I didn't want to make enemies on my first night, but I couldn't look away from those golden eyes. Shit. though I couldn't smell him, my body felt strangely magnetized to his presence. It was a physical heat, a buzzing under my skin that grew louder with every step. We stopped just a few inches from the couch, but he still didn't tell the blondes to leave. His gaze slowly raked over me, moving from the top of my long blonde curls down to the hem of the shimmering black dress Sofia had practically forced me into. It was an intense look—the kind that made me feel like he was seeing every secret I had ever tried to hide. "Cas, you’re back," Sofia said, her voice sounded a little breathless. "Who is she?" Caspian asked not looking at his cousin. He had ignored he girls on his arms. He just kept his eyes on me. One of the blondes grabbed his shoulder, her voice desperate. "Caspian, we were just saying—" "What’s your name?" he asked again, ignoring her again! "Jasmine." "Jasmine." He reached out and took my hand. The moment his skin touched mine, a jolt of pure electricity shot through my body. Its the way he said my name like he was tasting it, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that sent a wave of heat straight to my lower belly. It was raw, unashamedly sexy, and it made my heart flutter. The moment was interrupted by a massive guy pushing through the crowd, holding a phone out. "Caspian! Your phone is ringing. It’s Kalean." Caspian didn't let go of my hand, but he finally looked at the two girls on the couch. He didn't have to say a word. He just gave them a look that said their time was up, leave. They scrambled to their feet, tossing glares at me that could have melted lead as they stomped away. "Woof," Freya commented, sliding into the seat they’d just vacated. "If looks could kill, you’d be a puddle on the floor, Jas." Sofia laughed, "Careful, Jasmine. Seems my cousin has a deep interest in you. Your night is about to get very, very hot." I felt the heat rush to my cheeks, a deep blush spreading across my neck turning me scarlet. Caspian stepped away a few feet to answer the call, his grip finally leaving my hand, "Don't move!" He wasn't suggesting it. He was commanding it. The call was brief almost ending just as it began. He turned back, his eyebrows shooting up when he saw me still standing in the exact same spot, while Freya and Sofia were already getting comfortable on the couch. "You actually didn't move." "You told me not to," I replied. I felt like an obedient little girl, and I hated how much I liked it. He let out a shortlaugh, shaking his head. "God help me, you’re so innocently hot." He looked at me again, his eyes narrowing as they landed on the thin straps of my dress. Without a word, he pulled off his heavy leather jacket and draped it over my shoulders. The jacket was huge on me, heavy and radiating the heat of his body. My skin ached where the lining touched my bare arms. Nala went completely still, a sense of absolute peace washing over her. I grabbed the lapels and pulled the jacket tight, burying my face in the collar out of reflex. I inhaled deeply, desperate for a scent. I wanted to know if he smelled like cedar, or rain, or something I could finally hold onto. But there was nothing. My eyes filled with a sudden, stinging pain. I hadn't realized how much I was hoping for a miracle until it didn't happen. I hugged the jacket tighter, trying to hide the fact that I was crying on the inside. "What’s wrong?" "Nothing," I lied. Caspian watched me, his expression shifting into something curious. "You’re acting as if that jacket is water and you’re dying of thirst." He turned to Sofia, demanding an explanation. Sofia rolled her eyes, leaning back. "They’re my new friends, Cas. Jasmine and Freya. They’re freshmen." "You brought freshmen to The Den?" Caspian’s head snapped back to his cousin, his brow furrowing. "It’s their first night, Caspian! Be nice. Don't go scaring them." Sofia waved a hand dismissively. "How was the trip?" "It was fine." "And now you’re in your finals. Wow. About time." I looked at him, surprised. "You're in your finals?" "Yeah," he said, his gaze returning to me. "Should have been done a year ago, but we skipped a year to handle something." "We?" I asked. Sofia grinned so wide i was concerned her lips would tear, she leaned forward with a wicked glint in her eyes. "They’re triplets, Jasmine. The most famous and most dangerous set of brothers on campus." The room felt like it was spinning. "Triplets?" I looked at Caspian, trying to imagine two more of him. One was already enough to set my entire world on fire. The thought of three made my head light. "Triplets," Caspian whispered, his hand reaching out to tuck a stray curl behind my ear. His touch was warm so warm and it tingles. "If you think I’m a handful, you haven't met my brothers yet."
