maya pov
There was nowhere for me to go, and I was lost.
"Look, that's Maya over there!" Beside me, I heard a voice calling my name. As soon as I realized it was Damon's men, I started to run.
I sprinted as quickly as my feet would allow, but their legs were longer than mine, so they were able to catch up to me with ease.
After I hid to prevent them from taking me to their boss, Damon, I heard one of the men say, "We have lost her, let's go back."
"Damon will be able to locate her." Come on, let's go. Permit her to travel wherever she pleases, yet she is unable to get away from the boss. The men spoke what they felt and turned away. I heard their footsteps go and breathed a sigh of relief.
It was lonely everywhere. It's cold outside, and I wanted somewhere to sleep. I looked tired as I walked slowly down the rough trail.
"Where in the world might she be? I hope the demon god will simply put her out of his mind. I heard other men say, "She's worthless anyhow, and killing her won't change anything either."
They sat across from one another and numbered four. They all appeared substantial, and I couldn't help but smile.
I approached them to try and get assistance, not knowing who they were.
Gently approaching them, I said, "Hello, please, I need your help."
"She's right here!" One of the men shouted as they all got to their feet with great energy. They exuded fear in everything about them, and I instinctively spun around and ran away as they quickly pursued me.
"Her name is Laila. Keep her close at hand! Grab her. They were still coming after me when their boss yelled.
I was unaware of Laila's identity when her name suddenly happened to me.
All I know is that she was the runaway bride of the Alpha. Neither I nor anybody else in the vicinity of Arai, the home and throne of the demon god, have seen her.
Then it hit me—clearly sent by the demon god—that they were from Arai.
"Cease! I'm not the person you're searching for. I'm not Laila. I was able to say something, but it was too late, since my feet slipped off the rocky path's cliff and plummeted into the valley beneath the rocks.
One of the men declared, "She is dead," after noticing my nearly lifeless corpse lying in the valley like a piece of wood.
As everyone stared carefully at my body, one of them said, "Even if she is dead, we will still need her dead body as evidence to the demon god." Most likely considering your next move.
"Let's go down the valley and get her out; even if it means that she has to be eaten by wild animals, her remains will still be needed by the demon god." With a collective "yes," they all descended the valley.
I eventually got tired of sleeping and slowly opened my eyes since I was almost completely out of energy.
My gaze was drawn to the exquisitely carved ceiling. Everything appeared to be clear until my vision recovered, at which point everything remained hazy.
Why did you return, my lady? You ought not to have come back. Said one of the seven women in the bedchamber where I was lying.
I could tell they were servants based on the clothes they were wearing.
I made an effort to recollect what had happened and how I had gotten here, but nothing remained to jog my memory, leaving me to frolic in the darkness that had overtaken my consciousness.
"My lady, I was relieved to learn of your escape and hoped you had traveled far, but now you're back where you started." "You ought not to be present here," repeated the maidservant.
She was leading the maidservants, as I could tell by their faces, while the other servants remained silent and listened to our chat.
“The only thing I can say to stop the devil god from ruining you is to remember all you have ever done. Run, and do it again!” With a direct gaze in my direction, the maidservant spoke again.
She seemed somewhat startled that I stared back at her without averting my eyes.
"Everyone depart now!" As he entered the room where I was, a masculine voice spoke forcefully.
When I looked up, I was completely enthralled by what I saw.
A tall, attractive young man with a well-defined muscular physique. His incredibly attractive face was complemented by a finely formed jawline.
The maids didn't say anything as they departed, and their expressions weren't happy either. They appeared to be bracing themselves for the worst.
"The demon god must be him." The demon god stood before me, staring at me and perhaps wondering what to do with me. "The one they were all talking about," I whispered to myself.
"You believe you can elude me! Isn't that wise of you? The demon god spoke this as he hurried over to where I was sitting, lifted me to my feet, and forced me to look him in the eye.
"Leave me alone. What is your goal, and who are you? I pointed the knife which I had secretly taken off the bedstead, and said
His expression portrayed confusion, but I still didn't understand anything. Essentially, more perplexed than he is.
He kept his gaze fixated on me as if he was yet to understand a thing. He looked at me from head to toe as if he was trying to figure out something which was beyond my knowledge.
"Who am I?" Ignoring the knife aimed at him, the demon god replied. His eyes swept across my see-through clothing, and I had to smile awkwardly in response to meeting his bewildered and seductive stare.
"What is it that you want?" I inquired once more.
