A fire provided warmth, but the food was neither sufficient nor tasty. The landscape had remained barren, perhaps even deteriorated as the party moved farther east. Food was again running short, prompting Rhaven to issue restrictions on both food and drink.
"We've got enough food for five or six days," Tobias said. "Water's the problem."
"A town is hidden somewhere in these hills, Tobias. We should send scouts farther out each day."
"Trouble is, we need people who can pick up tracks. There's not a tracker one in that group of seamen. I could go—"
