The sound was gone as fast as it had come. So fast I wondered for a moment if I had heard it. I held still for a moment, hoping for more, but only the sound of the wind blowing through the Austrian pines could be heard. I gave myself a mental shake and realized that it was important that my friends noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Peggy’s attention was on the conversation she was having with Mrs. Rock. And Sunshine? Well, she seemed to be in her own world for the moment. Then she looked at me and I saw a brief expression of concern.
