11 - Mate

Katie's POV

"Wait!" I yelled. Even tried to yank my arms away with Kath's strength. But they are ridiculously strong and quite girthy. Also, it seems Kath is preparing for something—resting, to be precise.

"It isn't even midnight yet! And why am I getting pulled into the prohibited forest?! If it's me getting exiled, then it should be to the safer parts of the woods at least!" I argued, but they both chuckled.

"You really thought Alpha Fredrick wouldn't know that you had been planning to escape before the banishment?!" One wolf guard jeered as I gaped. How did he know!? There is only one logical explanation: Khalid's friend betrayed him. My heart is thumping loudly as, step by step, we are nearing the woods.

"Let me go!" I screamed and stood still, but they both just carried me in the air. All while still grasping my arms. Now I look like a complete i***t, kicking the air. Once we were by the entrance, they pushed me into the ground.

"You look really pretty today.." One male wolf whistled in a disgusting way.

"Compliments coming from maniacs aren't appealing," I declared while shooting them death glares.

"Being hard to get is just making us more horny, honey." The other one howled with excitement. Do they have a collective meeting where the word 'honey' is used in these types of situations? Ugh. Disgusting.

Grimacing at their statements, my hands slowly made their way to my feet. Quietly unhooking the strap of my heels. They didn't see me doing so because of the darkness. Their senses are not that enhanced, unlike those of high-ranking wolves. I successfully took off my heels, holding them with my right hand while the free one was on the ground. Preparing to boost myself up later. Distracting them with pointless bickering and whatnot. One wolf started to unbotton his shirt while laughing wickedly and staring at me with lecherous eyes. I waited for the right timing to strike. Once he was near enough, I instantly stabbed one heel in his left leg. Pushing myself up and helping my body to stand up. I ran. My whole mind is in a mess with mixed feelings about today.

The two of them cursed and wolfed out to catch me. But the one whose leg I stabbed ran slowly as he only shifted his weight to his three other legs. The uninjured one swiftly jumped to trap me, but I rolled off the grass. Hopping to stand up as I stab its back with the last heel that I have. It yelped in discomfort while glaring at me as if it now wanted to kill me.

I ran with all my might. Deeper into the woods. Again. Even though this is the third time I have gone inside here, the sinister stillness is always new and terrifying. This part of the woods is vast. Even if one wants to venture into the whole vicinity, it would take them a long time to truly and fully explore the area.

Me being in my human form and I could only do much with Kath's strength, as we are still yet to become truly one. The two wolf guards finally managed to catch up, even with their wounds. They healed it slowly, but there are still visible cuts. The two of them circled me around. Growling with anger, baring their teeth to scare. I did not look away or even show a hint of my weak side. They took a stance, preparing to attack, but Alpha Fredrick suddenly came and bellowed in frustration.

"You cannot even manage to hold down one she-wolf omega!? With eight paws!? How useless!" He sneered and whipped his head in my direction.

"Where's Khalid!?" I asked, squinting my eyes in anger.

"Somewhere. Don't worry about him; you should think of yourself," he responded.

Luna Kathrina emerged from the dark, and I could sense a small pack of wolves at a distance. He alpha commanded the two wolf guards to bite their own legs as punishment for almost losing me.

Alpha Fredrick stood up straight, his jaw slightly tilted upwards, like he's showing everyone who's the alpha. He slowly takes his time to walk in front of me. I faced him to meet his gaze. Without further ado, he started to chant the rite of banishmrnt.

"Katie Smith of the Crimson Pack is hereby banned from entering our part of the woods. She deserved to be banished in the prohibited forest because of the criminal act of attempting to run away to another pack before her formal banishment." Alpha Fredrick's voice boomed in the forest. At this point, I just want to smack him in the head and scold him, saying that he should lower his voice. Or else he might draw in other creatures he wouldn't want to fight.

"Kathrina?" he added, calling for mother's name so that she would approve. She looked at me with tears falling from her eyes. But she must've seen something in my face because she immediately turned her back at me, covering me from Alpha Fredrick's view.

"Fine. I announce my approval. I hereby banish Katie Smith of Crimson Pack." She coldly stated and turned again to face me. This time, it feels like a fog has lifted, and I can see clearly. Her face. Her eyes say everything unspoken. All this time, I was so blinded by fury that I didn't notice mother was by my side all along. She was alpha-commanded.. I can feel it. And now everything has never been more than clear. Based on her cuts and grazes, it seemed she was forced to come here. Kath growled angrily at this fact. I was about to say something, or at least fight, but mother gestured for me to go away. It seems she is desperate, as her hands shake in distress.

"Wait.."

Mother's eyes widened in fear with Alpha Fredrick's sudden interruption. Her heartbeat's quickened its pace.

"We should just kill her, Kathrina. I can sense she has a wolf counterpart," he quietly demanded so that the other wolves wouldn't hear. But his voice was terrifying and dangerous. For the first time, I have never felt this kind of fear. I was even more scared now compared to when I was five and was shunned. Having Kath in my life makes me want to live more and treasure my life.

"What the f**k are you saying!? No! She is still our daughter, Fred. Your own flesh and blood!" Mother defended and shielded herself in front of me. Alpha Fredrick gripped her arm. His claws elongated as it dug into her skin while he sneered, "We are always going circles, Kathrina! The second part of the prophecy! Didn't you hear your son in the mind link!? The rogue alpha is a descendant of prophecy tellers! She is truly the devil's mate! What he wanted! What if she can control him and decided to attack us? Our pack? The whole wolf population!? Will you take responsibility!?"

Alpha Fredrick yanked his mate towards him to furiously whisper those words. He then stared at me as he spoke, "Well, since it has come to this, we might as well kill her now and just deal with her mate later on."

He growled ferociously and was about to s***h me with his thick claws. I instantly braced for impact and defended myself with my arms out front, but then I felt warm hands wrapping me up in a tight embrace and jumped from the ground to the branch at once.

"Why don't you just deal with me right now?" A low and deep voice loomed over the forest. I can feel his breath and his sweet, intoxicating scent. It made my heart pound so loudly, and I felt shivers and tingles all over my body. In that instant, I knew I was already his.

"MATE!" Kath yipped, and I felt her happily rolling around in my head.

"Mate," I whispered, and our eyes met. I gasped when I saw how beautiful his eyes were. It was both bright red and blood red at the same time, flickering and changing each time he breathed. Both of them shone, and I immediately loved both of them. A beautiful red. The same as in the past. So.. It really was him. I felt him tense up, close his eyes, and take a deep breath. By the time he opened his eyes again, only the bright red color remained.

"I'm sorry if that scared you, my little omega." He kissed my forehead softly.

"And I'm sorry I'm late." He bumped his head with mine, and I nuzzled into his neck, breathing in his addicting smell.
